Nicely done, and one of the more attractive Japanese destroyers!

It sure looks stellar in your pics! Your rust and weathering sure made the whole ship pop! Glad I stopped in and read your whole WIP. I've added the "sea rock" to my list of items to pic up at the LHS :cool_2: That's a great idea that will get used. Thanks for sharing :thumbs_up_1:

And I think I've got this one finished up!

A couple of thoughts on this build:

- In the future, I'm going to apply a metal primer to all the brass parts while they are on the fret. I think that will make the painting process go much more smoothly.

- I need to figure out a way to get a more precise fit of the ship into the sea base. It's not ideal to be filling gaps with waves.

- Rigging was not easy due to the arrangement of masts and yard arms on this ship and its small size in general. I'm happy with the light color rigging on the signal halyards though.

- The two masts got knocked off in a terrible accident while I was getting started on the rigging. Quite traumatic but we pulled through.

- There were only two davits included in the photoetch for the launches so the starboard side has none :(

- The photoetch 25mm single mount AA guns look really bad. I was so unhappy with them I removed all the forward AA suite after initially mounting them.

- Overall I'm very happy with this build - basically my third fully realized 1/700 ship. Definitely a step in the right direction for me.

I used XF-75 Kure Arsenal - but I diluted and lightened it for some coats so it's not the pure color.

That is a very fine looking model indeed. I have one question, you mentioned Tamiya IJN grey, but which variant did you use for this model?

She is looking really nice. You should be pleased.

I think it close to impossible to paint the brass strips on in this scale. Scraping paint off brass is usually what folks do, though not everybody goes for them in this scale.

I've read that some use a gold colored pen or marker.

Got the red hull line painted on and most of the weathering done. A wash with black panel liner followed by oil paint filters. Some light paint chipping and then salt and rust stains.

Got the torp tubes on and the ship mounted to the base and ready for the final details.

Rigging is up next I think. Then rope reels need to be painted and mounted. And lastly turrets, motor boats, davits, 25mm AA guns, and other accessories will go on. And finally (or maybe sooner if I get bored), I'll add wake to the sea base. I'm really pleased with how this has turned out now that I can see it on the sea; definitely the best ship I've done so far!

A couple of issues if had - I was able to fix the bubbling in the sea base by cutting a tiny slit in the bubbles and releasing the air stuck in there. Now it's completely unnoticeable. So a big win on that one. The other issue was that when I went to scrape off the paint to reveal the brass tie-dows, the paint was flaking off more than where I wanted it to. I was able to mitigate the damage but maybe that's not the best approach for this. What are other people doing on IJN ships with PE linoleum decks? Just painting the brass strips on afterwards?

Thanks! I've got a Tennesse 1944 queued up after this one that'll have a nice dazzle camo. I really looking forward to that build.

Beautiful clean work with the etch set. I love the sea base too.

I'm trying Mig Masking Fluid for the first time. It's actually relatively easy to paint it into the contours of the deck. I think I'll definitely be using this in the future over tape for decks.

Image
I used Tamiya IJN Gray for the base coat. I then did a lot of post shading with mostly white mixed with a little gray and highly diluted.

Image
And it looks like my panel lines and pres-shading paid off. I've got some very subtle paneling effects that look more or less in scale.

Image
All my build issues and poor CA glue joints are really apparent now but hopefully those will start to become less noticeable once washes, oils, and other effects start going down.

I cleaned everything off with some water and dish soap in the airbrush. After all that handling and gluing there's a lot of residue that can keep paint from sticking properly. Then put down a base coat of nato black to unify everything up. It's hard to tell from the picture but I did not apply much paint to the sides of the hull where I had already done some pre-shading.

Image
Linoleum deck color is down. I went over it with a few different layers of the color in slightly different shades and dilution ratios. Hopefully, this post-shading will break up the color a bit and increase the scale effect.

Once this is thoroughly dry I'm going to mask the deck with masking fluid And paint the primary hull colors. I've never used the fluid before (usually use tape) but a did a few quick tests and it looks promising. We'll see I guess.

Nice progress on the ship! She looks great! :thumbs_up_1:

The wooden base for the case looks great too. Did you make this yourself?

Yes, it's just some oak moulding that I mitered together and set on a plywood base. The foam block for the sea just sits down nicely in it.
