I remember seeing that build on the main page before joining the forum. Did you let some kids passing by take the controls so you could take a few pictures of the first sailing?

Dave, thanks for posting that old picture back from the Iron Duke days. Memories.

Roel, When I had fixed all the balsa wood planking in place, and fitted the balsa bow blocks I very lightly sanded the hull to take off any sharp edges.

Next I put on some very fine fibreglass matting with resin, again giving it a light sand to take off any sticking up matting that you sometimes get.

Then it was covered in very thin layers of fibre paste, again sanding on each layer till you get a good finish.

Brilliant, I had forgotten about this one too.

A few questions though. Tell me if I'm wrong, but the balsa is not sanded to shape on this ship before you fibreglassed the whole lot? And practically you bring the hull to shape with the paste applied on top of the fibreglass yes?
And what did you use for fibreglassing? Very fine cloth and some epoxy resin? No top coats or anything?

Thanks for posting this one again, next to Iron Duke and the Moffet this is another excellent reference for anyone who wants to try something like that (including me in the near future :heh: ).

Just to test the water with my big toe, okay I have little or no idea how anyone can build something like this from scratch, if, and there's that blasted word again 'if' someone wanted to build something (nothing on that level) easy, I mean something worth building but not to complex, where would one make a start ?

Just stay tuned to this board and check out ARHs builds, he is the master builder :thumbs_up_1: :wave_1: There is also plenty of good scratch builders on the board that can help you .
