Officers from HMS Hood survey the battle in a 50ft steam picket while a range of pulling boats prepare for a sneak attack.

It was very good to view the models up close and difficult to believe how small they really are. :thumbs_up_1:

Thank you! That is a great compliment for me, because in a diorama, the 'feel' is for me always one of the most important things.

No problem Rui! I'm used to it, and I've seen much much worse. Not to mention the pronunciation! Well, it is simply not an easy name for non-Dutch-speakers...

Beautifully done - rich in detail and I feel the story being told as I study the photos. Excellent work!

Hahaha! That wouldn't be the first modellers staying over at my place. But I wouldn't dare to charge anything for my poor hospitality skills though! ;)

Meanwhile, I added battle damage to the shrouds and ratlines.
Those pristine shrouds and ratlines looked pretty, but they don’t really fit to the battle-feel I’m after… :)

Hi there Marijn and all,

I was always sure your rigging was going to be fantastic, but I never imagined you were taking it this far, this good. I am speechless everytime I get into your thread. I love to see the progress.

Keep them coming, and very best regards,

Willie.

Ahahahah
Marjin's Guesthouse... Perhaps a new business idea*!
I'll take the wine ;)

Rejoice, Rui!
The best detail you'll see on all these photos published by Marijn! It's so tiny (and lighting conditions on shows are mediocre at best) that you won't see all that detail, unless you'll have the dio in front of you on a desk, with excellent lighting (and optivisors)!

Maarten Schnfeld wrote: Sun Feb 01, 2026 3:51 am Marijn, the Victory is looking more and more 'ugly', day by day now!

Don't get me wrong: the uglyness is really fantastic! It really sets this dio apart from any superbly built Victory I ever saw before. I can't wait to see the ship with all the dragged sails, dead in the water... But that will take many more months I guess...
Thank you Maarten!
Yes, models of battle damaged ships of the line a rather rare, which is one of the reasons I wanted to have a go at it.
I am adding to the ugliness at this moment: adding damage to the shrouds and ratlines. ;)
And you are right, next up will be the spars with their sails and rigging. And you are right too that this will take multiple months for sure. But it's a nice challenge that I'm really looking forward to now!
