Martin - is the Amagi any good? I hadn't realised PitRoad had kitted her.

Cheers,

I think it depends on the carrier you are building. There are photo-etch sets available from Tom's ModelWorks and Gold Medal Models that cover the many ships.

Hasegawa, PitRoad, FineMolds and Joe World make ship and/or class specific sets. I just picked up an Unryu-class set for my PitRoad Amagi. You can buy these at places like Rainbow Ten or Hobby Search. You'll also find that Hobby Link Japan also sells some sets.

I've ordered from HLJ and Hobby Search with no problems. I don't recall if I've used Rainbow Ten, but know people who have. They seem reputable as well.

I was thinking about buying a PE set for hase Shoho, and there is a GMM generic set, so what is the usefulness of that set? Also, will there be anything lef for some other flattop?

Hi Boroboy... welcome back!

I used the Toms modelworks IJN carrier fret when I built my Akagi many moons ago--its brass and very very fine-- I suggest buying one of each and then mixing and matching

GMM does a Chiyoda set that never ceases to supply me withuseful parts for non-Chiyoda models!!

:cool_2:

good luck

Alan,

GMM make a fret suitable for most IJN carriers. It is available from WEM.

I go through a lot of these frets, they have a number of parts suitable also for my pre-dreadnoughts.

Cheers,

Rob
