All, head over to the reviews thread as my 1/700 Lewis and Clark ammunition ship arrived. I've added some pictures and initial commentary on the model's appearance.

This one measures out at 11 7/8 inches. Hopefully someone can do the scaling out measurement to see how close that gets to the real ship length of 689 feet.

Thx,
D.

Don,

Scales out at 628.125 feet or 0.020 inch too long, close enough for my liking.

All,

Hopefully the pictures are good enough to show detail. I took them on my phone. The sellers indicate that the models are for advanced modelers. What does that mean to me? For starters sifting through my spare photo etch and parts bins to give the model some "life" and points of interest. Painting should be fairly straight forward since the ships are "blocky" by design, so taping off shouldn't present an issue. For the obsessed scale calculators out there, the model measures out at 11 and 5/8 inches. In real life, the ship is 677 feet in length. I'm sure someone better at scaling will tell us if that's spot on for 1/700 or not  Anyways, hope the pics help.

Don, if you'd like to provide photos/a review (however short) of your kit, you should post it in the Reviews section for easier access: https://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/v ... m.php?f=84

You should be able to post the photos here by simply dragging them from your computer into the reply box. Otherwise, click the "Attachments" tab at the bottom of the reply page and upload there through the "Add files" button.

Hi Frank,

Brother you are diligent at watching those eBay offerings!! :cool_2: I too have been watching the same listings and actually pulled the trigger. I ordered the Henry Kaiser supply ship in 1/700 back in March, and I have to say I was impressed with its physical condition on arrival, so I left positive unboxing feedback with pictures, see below link: https://www.ebay.com/str/microscopicworld?_tab=feedback

Maybe someone could help me with uploading the Kaiser pictures here? However, that may be reserved for only a mod to be able to upload in this thread?

In seeing the Henry Kaiser model in person motivated me to order the 1/700 USNS Lewis and Clark dry cargo/ammo replenishment ship from the same seller at the end of March. Here we are in near mid-May, and I just got a tracking number for the L&C. I'd like to think the updated picture we all now see on the eBay listing is potentially mine, lol. The L&C picture on eBay does look like a quality production and not just a "chunky" poorly "printed" model.... fingers crossed!!!

This evening I threw caution to the wind and just purchased the John Lewis fleet oiler. Likely it will be early July as the projected arrival date.

For those on the fence about purchasing from the sellers that are listing the above-mentioned models, I get it, it's a crap shoot with dealing halfway around the world. I will say this though; the sellers have been VERY responsive to the inquiries I've had. They generally reply within an hour. They are upfront in making it clear that the models are not produced before ordering, therefore, the "printing" will take some time, thus the 2-month delay including shipping. Were all modelers, by our very hobby, we are a patient lot, lol.

Hopefully this reply that was originally to Frank....remember Frank? LMAO :wave_1: will possibly ease someone's understandable concerns when thinking of ordering the above listed ships off eBay. Anyways, hope this helps.

Several weeks ago, there were preorders listed on several Ebay sites for 1/700 scale 3D printed models of the USNS Lewis and Clark dry cargo/ammo replenishment class and the new USNS John Lewis fleet oiler class. There were only drawings shown and no photos of the actual models. Several of the Chinese Ebay sites now have photos of the actual 3D printed model of the Lewis and Clark, but still none for the John Lewis. To me the model looks very good and well detailed. Here is a link to one listing. Hopefully the John Lews will look as nice and have the same level of detail.

Coming in due time, but we're looking at that one as well.

Same price for full hull or waterline. The jury is very much out on this for me, but a USS California, either cage mast or 1944 mod would be tempting.
