Nice work. And good to know I am not the only one with projects that take a decade from start to finish -:)

The quarter gallery is a 3D structure made of Magic Sculp (a two-part modeling compound) - the same stuff I used for the figurehead.

The windows and the decoration at the stern are made from paper - on which I printed the plan, which I am using. I coloured the plan using Photoshop.

Extremely impressive painting work on the stern gallery and hull! I'm thinking of attempting a plank-on-bulkhead wood scratchbuild of a similar ship in 1/96 or 1/64 scale (probably the schooner HMS Pickle as the plans + instructions for the Caldercraft kit are freely downloadable from their site) but couldn't begin to imagine scratchbuilding something this small and fine.

One question, is the stern + quarter gallery detail entirely painted, or did you mould the detail in 3D? It seems like this sort of thing would be a good application for custom-designed PE.

Wow, looks great!

I can hardly paint a wall without ruining, how'd you do such little detail work?!

Adorable!

And as for the scratchbuilding squad, I hope I can finally show some progress too. Darn, new job's sucking all the modelling blood out of me.

Looking good. And it's nice to have the '700 scratchbuiling squad working again. I'll see if I can add something later in the week, I'm currently 200km south of the workbench.

Some new photos:

Together with a painting of the Bidefort, which was also built in 1740 - I used this painting to determine the colours.

The windows are coloured versions of the drawings I am using:

No, these parts are large enough to see them...
Neptune wrote:How are the other projects going?
They are currently stopped ;)

I built the lower masts (steel):

Great, do you use a magnifier for that? Awesome work, hope you continue with this build for a moment! How are the other projects going? :thumbs_up_1:

Nice!

Now the head rails and head timbers are added:

The upper head rails are made of Evergreen 0,3 x 0,3 mm plastic stripes. But those are to thick, therefore I used stretched sprue. The disadvantage is that these are round, but there are much more to scale.

Ah, I was wondering what that was but didn't want to look like an idiot and have to ask! :thumbs_up_1:

The figurehead (a lion) was modelled on the knee of the head using Magic Sculp. I was not pleased with the first result, but the second attempt was even worse. Therefore I used the first. I attached the knee of the head with the figurehead to the hull and added also the gratings (using 0,25 mm polystyrole plate) to stabilise the knee of the head.

The next steps will be head rails and head timbers. I am still thinking how to produce them...

Tja, there are currently following unfinished models at my desk: Capitana (Maltese galley, 1700), HMS Rose (24 gun ship, 1740), USS Baltimore, USS Olympia and USS Raleigh (all protected cruisers, c. 1898), USS Brooklyn and USS Maryland (both armoured cruisers), SMS Albatross (cruiser minelayer, 1914), Leipzig and Nrnberg (both light cruisers, c. 1941), Moskwa (Russian missile cruiser, c. 2005), Kongo, Takanami and Atago (Japanese missile destroyers, c. 2008). Therefore I don't know, when Rose will be finished.
