I have been trying out the light bulb idea on some old parts from a kit that I did not get quite right when I was starting out (1/350). Fact is the filament in your standard bulb is in most cases far to fragile to work with. One I have found that works rather well is from a stage spotlight (I work as a sound engineer and old bulbs from my lighting friends helped with this). The problem here in this case is cost as these bulbs (Bubbles is what we call them) cost round $250 (NZ) and more so all in all I would say look for after market parts or find a household bulb that is better to work with than I did. Still I will keep trying things out as I still think it�s a good idea.

I have had this idea for a while but I was never sure how to execute it. Well if you were doing it in a big scale like 1/48 you could drill out the barrels and housings for the mechanics place the light in there and have it blink I don't know to do smoke but I guess you could use a little train smoke machine.

You could try winding very thin cupper wire around the barrel, either keep the ends of the wire at the bottom of the gun as not to make it visible, or make a casting and cut to size.

Well, my experience with LArsenal's 40 mm guns has very well looking recoil springs in resin.. However it might be really worth a try to use the bulb spring to enchance it even farther... However, the spring should be very tightly on the barrel, as else it would look overscale....

Also, i fear the bulb springs are made of tungsten, and it is very fragile in the spring form...

However, I would really gladly see if it would work!

Whichever fits..the model I was using was 1/350..it was a little too small for the gun though, so perhaps a bigger light bulb spring would do the trick.Do they make an after market part that enhances that recoil part of the gun?

Hmm, interesting idea, but which guns and scale you want to decorate this way? In 1/350 and 1/700 you are usually well served by very fine aftermarket parts... which look 1000 better then the plastic clumps you get (usually, there are exceptions but few) with the kits...

As many of you know, I am still new to all of this, so this maybe very "1982",but has anybody ever used the little spring thing inside a lightbulb to enhance this part of a Gun? If so, how were the results? I was going to try it today, but the gun was already too far along for it to be placed into it....
