it's a BKA 1125
just doing some research on the correct T34 turrret to use, as they changed quite a bit. Hopefully i will get a choise.
The next thing is to rescale the plan i have to 1/24, it will take a while to build as i work a 7 on 7 off shift patern. By the time i've done my father and husband bit's & bob's it only leaves about 12 hours modelling time in a 2 week cycle. I will have to also fit my static builds into this, I normaly stop building during the high summer months, but will have to break with the norm and carry on building throughout.

Hey cool, which monitor are you going to build? ;o) A BK class motor gunboat or a more "serious" one like Zhelezniakov or Sun Yat Sen?

it was the swamping thing that gave me concern over the 1/35scale so i will take your advice and go for 1/24.
The only problem is at just over 3ft long my wife is going to do her nut when she eventually see's it. The turrets will take longer to do as i wont be able to use 1/35 kit one's, but at least it allows me to go totally down the scratch build road. More fun and a longer build plus it will allow me to save up my pennies for the R/C gear.
just got to choose what to make the hull out of now? the boats flat sided with a rather tasty low sweeping fwd keel and a reverse angled stern so construction will be straight forward.
Do you think i could get away with les's idea of 1/35 figures as i'm vertically challenged myself the crew could be minnie me's

ROY, If you want it to sail correctly go for 1/24 scale, anything smaller is liable to get swamped, if you want crew you can use 1/20 scale pit crew figures and cut them down slightly, also more room for your R/C equipment.

If you want to crew it with good figures, do it in 1/35.

after watching some of the superb builds on here i have decided to try my hand at R/C. I've gone so far as to choose what i'm going to build which is a soviet river monitor. It's just what scale to build in that is causing me some concern.
In 1/24scale she or he as its soviet would be L=37,1/2in ----95.2 cm
W=5,5/8in-----14.3cm
deck to keel=2,7/8in-----7.3cm

or do i try to do it in 1/35scale roughly L=25in---------63.5cm
W=3,3/4in-----9.5cm
deck to keel=1,7/8in ----4.8cm

the monitor is flat bottomed with a single screw and rudder formation partly housed in a concave recess.
