These are L'Arsenal 20mm's I'm working on...the little white things are ammo drums cut from .050" plastic rod

Here's one possibility:

These are 20mm from the Trumpeter Essex-class kit (1/350), with replacement barrels and with Tom's PE for the shields and sight assemblies. The barrels are 0.15 piano wire tapered by twirling them with my fingers against a Dremel's spinning grinding/cutoff wheel. I suppose that cut off sewing pins would do, too.

They're not perfect, but there are easily reproducible (fairly so, at least; far easier than the mini-kits from L'Arsenal) and they don't look bad from a reasonable distance.

I've also used the L'Arsenal ones that were included on the fret for HMS Colossus but not needed for that model.

Do they issue 20mm guns as a separate fret? It would be great if they did but I don't see them listed on their website.

Just to be clear, I'm talking about 1/700 scale here. I know they produce a specific set in 1/350, and I wouldn't use any other. It's just that I'd love to see them easily available in the divine scale.

Are you listening, Jacques?

Kind regards,

David Griffith

Im a newcomer here, just got back into ship modeling after a long hiatus, (40 years lol) and jumped in with both feet with a Trumpeter Yorktown. My question is, how do you deal with the gunsight/shoulder harness PE for the 20mm?. Im using Toms PE and have tried CA to fit 2 together but am having a difficult time getting any decent results. Would appreciate greatly any hints you all may have. Im just blown away by some of the models and all of the research done by the many people here.

Use L'Arsenal 20mm's instead. A little fiddlier to figure the first one out but once you do they work great.
