Trying to answer my own question, I guess.

The 02 level of [i]Alaska[/i] doesn't look hugely different to [i]Baltimore[/i]. I wonder if the original 1942 forward superstructure would have been similar to the heavy cruisers (but with some extra length to accommodate the capital ship-like tower).
