Now while most 1/700 series are WWII or better there a a bunch of Resin Pre/Earlier 1900 ships that had or could have had sails as well as Steam.
I have a Resin Ironclad Dunderberg in route and thought I would add sails. Rice paper, tracing paper might work but I bought Rolling Papers (Old Head Days) Super thin and almost transparent after a coat of watered down Liquitex Gel.
Set a sheet on a piece of wax paper and gave it a coat, let dry and carefully peeled it off to coat the other side...This is looking promising for little sails and might even work for Unferraled sail as well.
I am not that smart so I bet it has been done before.
