Fantastic work there martin.

Don't think I would have the patience for all that planking.

If it had not been for the decks that you can purchase I would have had to paint them!!!!
Watching with Interest.

I am amazed too. That I survived, that is...

You hand-planked the entire deck of a 1/350 Bismarck... and survived?! Image

Unbelievable!! I am amazed!

I would agree; life is too short. I know, go out and buy one each of the new Revell kits...............

Maybe Bismarck will rise again, once IJ is finished.

Took a ride down to the Battleship New Jersey Museum with my son today, to pick up a 1/350 Tirpitz that had been on loan to them for almost six years.

When I got home, I put the two sisters together. Tirpitz is an older work, and frankly not one of my best efforts. What a difference between the Bismarck's deck and the plain plastic (albeit weathered) deck of Tirpitz...

I briefly thought about buying a wood deck for Tirpitz and upgrading her, but quickly talked myself out of it, as I'd probably have to remove all the railings from the ship and re-do those. I'm certainly NOT going to replicate what I did with Bismarck either!!

It's coming into focus, now. Nice.

Spent an enjoyable day this past Saturday (2/25) with some fellow ship modelers and naval history buffs in central NJ. I brought my WIP of the Bismark for display, with most of the superstructure dry-fitted for effect. Here's a few shots...

Seeing it with the superstructure parts on certainly gives me the impetus to keep going on it, but gotta finish a few other things first.

Bonkers Martin but a realistic result.

Some updated photos, taken at my local IPMS club meeting Friday night with a proper camera.

Bismarck is now safely tucked away at home, awaiting further work. Before I can give any more attention to this model, I have to finish Iwo Jima, and then I have a commission to build a 1/350 USS North Carolina for a fellow at work who just built a vacation home down in the Outer Banks.

Ryan - that's why I lock the door! And no Optivisor...just prescription reading glasses.

Though I do occasionally have people knock on the door. Recently the purchasing manager wanted to speak to me, so he came in my office. He looks at the Bismarck and says, "Wow, that deck looks just like real wood!". :doh_1:

Dan - good question!

Devin - even I got a chuckle out of that!

Only if they cut me a check! Tirpitz is actually only on loan. Speaking of which...

Yeah, I'm a little surprised at that as well.

I hope she doesn't go back on the shelf once you bring her home. Sounds like a weekend exchange - just as important, what will you bring in to replace Bismarck?

So Bismarck's anchor chain runs were made out of wood? Interesting concept.

Looking good, Martin. I have no idea how you find time to work on it at work!

Will this end up in the New Jersey museum next to Tirpitz & Sara?
