I'm converting a Trumpeter 1:72 LCM 3 (WWII) into a 1980's LCM 6.
The LCM 6 version that I'm building was called the Medical Salvage or Med/Sal. The bow ramp had been removed and a flat bow was welded on. There was also a wooden deck installed in the well. Those two things I have fabricated to my satisfaction.
The problem is the handrails! I've made a few sets, but all seem to be over sized (diameter). There were three rails total, one up each side the length of the well, and one wrapped around the coxswain flat.
Scale for some reason has allways mystified me, I usually just eyeball stuff and it comes out pretty close (in my opinion)
. These rails though are just not coming through. The latest and closest version are made from floral setting wire, which looks to be half the diameter of a coat hanger. I don't have a set of calipers so that is just a guesstimate.
What I need help on is the correct size of Naval handrails and what that converts to at 1:72, if its pretty close to half the diameter of a coat hanger I'll be greatly pleased. If its not, any suggestion on something close to the proper size?
