Hi Looking at some of the photo,s at Nav Sorce, the large angle section is carring the bridge, the smaller one is a parking area on one of the deck levels.

One set of drawings have dfferent rib numbers and slot in between the ones on the CV59 ribs, I hope this helps you, ARH :thumbs_up_1: :wave_1:

Thanks ARH!

I guess what was confusing to me is one drawing shows the hull angling back up to the flight deck from the main deck like a negative draft the other drawing does not. Looking at various Nav Sea photos and photos from a CD I have of Forrestal ships by Ray Bean the drawing which does show that can't be accurate. Yet according to the Floating Drydock where I got both drawings, the lines of the CV-61 are more accurate.

Additionally I have been trying to determine what the dimensions are of the different deck levels from the keel or from the flight deck. I know the flight deck was 97 feet from the keel. The hangar deck looks like it might be around 61 or 63 feet from keel of course thats a guess. I wanted to create a good grid of lines and connect everything.

Does this help, I have blended the two sets of ribs together, it give a better idea of the hull shape.

Do you mean my model or photos of the actual carrier. I haven't started my model yet so nothing on that end. CV-62 and CV-59 are the same class of ship.

Have you no photo,s of the carrier that we can see, port & starboard , are CV 59 & CV 62 both identical. :heh: :heh:

Cadman,
Did you see anything? What were your thoughts?

Sure! Here are the hull lines I have now to work with. The deck drawings for the CV-61 I have set up in photoshop so I can overlay them with the hull lines. The deck drawings have stretched over time and the hull line drawings don't match up with the deck lines. I have tried to do the best job I can to fair everything up but it's been difficult.

Can you snap a photo of the hull lines in question? I suspect that only the actual ship hull is represented by the lines and that the hanger is shown on the superstructure drawings.

Shouldn't there be a slope outward at least on one side if not both at some point? Like in the other set? For the flight deck, that is...

I don't know for sure. I know its pretty confusing. I think I will need to combine the two like you suggest.

Hmmm... those plans don't look right either - looks like you need some sort of a mix of the two?

Thanks kennylibben,
I got some advice from another ship modeling forum. The Floating Drydock has a set of drawings with lines of the Forrestal CV-59 which shows the hull in a more complete setting. The scale is 1/144 so I have to do a little scaling myself to meet my 1/350.

Sorry nobody has replied to this - seems the Q&A board doesn't get much traffic. Perhaps try posting in Main?

I'm just as confused as you are... being a flattop all the lines should go to the same height... yet they don't. Wish I could help, I searched for some drawings but didn't come up with anything yet!

hull sections questions CV-62

I have a question for some of you who may have been down this road before. I have my hull sections for the carrier I am planing to build and I have some questions. First the aft frames 124 thru 241 as they are shown in the drawing are cut off at what looks like the main deck. Would that be correct? Now what does the rest of the hull look like as it goes up to the gallery deck and flight deck? Those lines appear to be missing. Does the hull go straight up from that point were they are shown or do they taper in as shown on frame 123. I tried measuring the gallery deck drawing, hangar deck drawing and other decks in between to obtain the lines but I end up with something like a zig zag. I am planning to build the model at 1/350 scale. Does anyone have Forrestal class hull sections that are better then these, I could use? Thanks.
