Does anyone have pics or drawings of HMS Mersey (1858 screw frigate) figurehead and stern gallery carvings (if any)? Pics of builder's model, maybe?
I have a set of plans from NMM, but there is no trace of aforementioned subjects...
Also, am I right assuming that british 10-inch 85-cwt shell gun shared a carriage with 68-pdr gun, seen aboard HMS Warrior? And what about a pivot-mounted carriages for the 68-pdr guns?
Not my period of interest but with regards to the 68pdr pivot mounted carrage you could check out Andrew Bowcocks CSS Alabama Anatomy of a confederate raider. The carrage and slide for the 7 inch Blakely pivot gun was made by gun makers Fawcett and Preston and this is illustated is some detail in the book. Hope this sheds light on your quest. :thumbs_up_1:

Hi,

Having had a quick look at the photos available on the web for Mersey and Orlando, I think perhaps they did not have figureheads - not all ships of that period did.

As regards the gun question - sorry, can't help.
