Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, La., to cast the ship�s bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept. 9, 2003, �those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,� recalled Navy Capt. Five or six years ago there was an email with the info about the WTC steel in the USS New York that was forwarded almost as many times as the one for the kid who wanted all the greeting cards. I probably got it from a hundred different sources and checked it out on snopes.com to see if it was legit. Then I asked people to stop forwarding it to me.

About 95% of structural steel beams and plates steel like the steel used in USS New York is recycled steel. Using a specific party of scrap metal, tracking it through the steel making process is and putting in one place is interesting but do able with current computerized steel logistics. Steel used for ammunition and armor needs a lot of other work on it, different alloy metals for one, so while it is possible that other parts of the building may have been used in bullets I somehow doubt it. Steel wreckage from WTC would have been much better put to use in making bombs and bullets for use against the Taliban-Man and Al-Queda.

Watch for a show on either History, History International or the Military Channel called "Destroyer: Forged in Steel".

That's the show on the New York that talks about the steel from the WTC being used in her construction.

no no no, I'm not saying I don't believe it... I was just making sure it was true. I hadn't heard a single whisper about this entire thing until yesterday, so I googled it and got mixed results... I was just checking to make sure it's real since my results came up varied! No disbelief here, just double checking!

Why do you believe it to be a hoax? What is it that you find implausible about it? Considering the latitude inherent in the statement "there actually being steel from the WTC in the bow of the USS New York ", the steel from WTC that made it into the New York can be as little as 1 nut. Why would you believe that to be unlikely?

So the issue of there actually being steel from the WTC in the bow of the USS New York is in question? Is that what you're stating?

When I first read the headline, I read it like the steel from the WTC is "ruining" the ship, like it was faulty in some way. But I read it again and the headline means that the steel is from the ruins of the WTC. So I was wondering if you, or others, were suspecting if the steel from the WTC was actually ruining the USS New York.

I confused myself, at first.

I "did" see the Modern Marvels or other similar documentary series on History Channel or the Military Channel that was about the WTC steel and the USS New York and scrap metal and foundry and shipyard footage.

Very sentimental thing to do. I believe it.

Well I figured if it was on Fox it was true (please, no obnoxious comments about the validity of Fox)... however if you google it there are some sites claiming it is a hoax, and I was surprised to see Fox as the only major news source at the top of the search results...

What part of the article, or event, is supposed to be the hoax?

I saw a documentary about the WTC steel being received at a foundry and its purpose to be used in the USS New York. I think it is true.

Fox was the most reliable site I found it on, but some sites claimed it was a hoax?

I'm just surprised I never heard anything about her, on here or elsewhere.
