Thanks for the interest guys! Unfortunately I have not made much progress in the past couple of years, my interests switched to 1/72 aircraft, see links below:

I think the difference still is pretty big, might indeed be more then a metre, or about 3 to 4 feet.
I also asume that they'll start at differant places as well seeing the fact that they will need to have a certain length in order to be able to launch the aircraft.

After looking at some of the photos that Cliffy posted, I agree. They don't stop even, however, the staggering isn't nearly as severe as the Trumpeter picture makes it look like. It's only a few feet. The trumpeter instruction sheet makes it look like it's over 10 feet in difference.

Also, it would be a nice touch if someone did an unrep diorama and had "I Want to Get Away" by Lenny Kravitz playing (The CO of the ship when my wife served on the TR played that song whenever they did an emergency breakaway drill after unrepping)

If you look CLOSELY you can see that the port cat track is a little bit longer than the starboard track.

But then you look at these shots and they look even....

Notice that the TR carries "Big Stick" on the edge of the forward flight deck. It would be a nice touch hint hint :big_grin:


They start at two different places on the deck and the JBDs are noticeably uneven so I don't know why the tracks would be different lengths. I'm confused now too...

The photo also shows the do NOT stop at the same point.
The ship is under a small angle on the photo, so just drawing a line straight down from the highest catapult won't give you any realistic idea of where they end.
The line should be running parallel with the bow.

Of course I realized that after most of the painting was done :censored_2: so I tried to hide it with paint but as you can see the result is not very nice... A bit of putty later it's OK, the main difficulty was to find the right colour to paint the area again without too much of a difference with the rest.
I'm sorry to be this late, but if i see the position where the catapults start i would say the starboard catapult would be ending a bit further forward.
The picture below shows that i'm right (and Trumpeter as well), or has this been changed on Theodore Roosevelt? :

Absolutley amazing, I have a carrier as well want to make Nimitz or Carl Vinson, you inspire me to do this, but since i have never attempted a ship yet, i think i will go with a destroyer or Crusier first. Any Updates??? :good_job:

Work started on the Hornets. Black priming coat and grey base. I will then vary the grey shade between the planes to avoid too uniform an airwing. Given the result on the Tomcats I did not mask the canopies, they look black as if I had painted them :scratch: . These will therefore be painted black with a gloss coat at the end of the decalling process.

Thanks guys, here is the complete F-14 airwing (Or at least all those who will appear on my flight deck, I don't have enough planes to use all the decals!). You can access a larger picture through these.

I screwed up the blue CAG so it is not as good as the other hi-viz planes because I had to use the Trumpeter decals on the sides of the cockpit If anyone has a spare... :wave_1:
Also, I painted a darker blue layer on top of the decals as their blue looked way to shiny to me.

The next step after a layer of future is to paint all the reactor nozzles (I should have done it before decalling). Then I will start to work on the GMM PE landing gears :)
