Hi Nansung,

Fear not another copy has just come up. It's just like I said. There's always another one coming up. And in fact another one is already on Ebay and right now the open is 12 GBP. You just need to be patient. Good Luck.

Unluckly, the price of the book on ebay raised very rapidly in the last 30 minutes, and I offered 50 GBP, someone offered 53 GBP just before the auction ended. I know the book's very good, but I can't afford more than 50 GBP.

Hi Nansung,

Keep on watching that book and at the last minute if its within your price range pop in your bid. Personally, I think you'll be able to get it for 22 GBP.

Hi Nansung,

Like I said bidding on Ebay is like betting in a casino. Bid with your head not over it.

Thank you all!

I have to say, though I know that book is at a very low price, it's a little expensive for me considering the low wage standard in China.

Do you know when I publish an article ( 5k+ Chinese characters, fully illustrated ) on an authoritative chinese warship monthly, I can only get 40 GBP.

Bruce, that guy bought two more books

Hi Nansung,

As Jim says the book at 80 GBP is indeed a bargain. I can not give it enough accolades. I've had a copy since 1985 and find it invaluable. However, I would also check out Alibris.com and other book sites. Right now there is a copy of it for $ 142.00 on Alibris. My suggestion would be to watch Ebay over the next few days and at the same time try to contact the vendor on Alibris to hold the book for you for a few days. Then see how much you can get it for on Ebay. You can not bargain on Alibris but its nice knowing you can get it there if you get beat on Ebay. Do this for every book you want to buy. Just remember that just because something is on E bay does not mean you will get it for the cheapest price. It just means that it's on auction on Ebay.

Good luck

Respectfully,

It usually makes between 125.00 to 185.00 plus pending condition.

He who hesitates will now own a copy!!

If you are into RN battleships you need this book--I have had my copy for 5 years now and I paid 90.00 or so back then-and thought it to be a bargain then...

Cheers

These price developments are all the more interesting as the reprint of the German edition (same pictures, same drawings, German text) still available at 49,- Euros ( 35 or less).

"IF you want the book on Ebay, let the first copy go and the second will open at a loss less."

I think it usually goes like this.

How do you think of the Raven Roberts British Battleships of WW2 at 80 GBP buy it now?

by Bruce Kapito » Mon May 16, 2005 12:08 am

Hi Nansung,

Either way paying $ 600 for any book is absurd. I saw the Burt book at the New York library and while quiet good, is not as good as the Raven Robets book. Of course, next time I see the Burt book, I'm bidding up to GBP 150 again even my present unemployed circumstance. I hope to get it to complete my set. I also have a number of used book stores in the US and UK keeping an eye out for it.

Hi Nansung,

I think you're incorrect. I ceased bidding on the first book at 150, told him to go get it and he says he lost out at the last minute. If he didn't I can not figure out why he'd buy a second at twice the price unless he's a dealer or something like that. Either way if you average cost it out, he paid 238 GBP per copy plus postage. That' s about $ 450 per copy. No way he'll ever make a profit if he is a dealer especially if there will be more books going on ebay. IF you want the book on Ebay, let the first copy go and the second will open at a loss less.

Hi, Bruce. Your wrong.

That guy paid 160 GBP for the former R.A. Burts British Battleships 1919 - 1939 and for a long time there's no other one bid for this book, so maybe he treat the auction lightly. Someone placed a last minute bid and beaten him at 165 GBP. Just 5 GBP more! I think he long for this book, so he place 300+ GBP for the second one.

He has already paid for it, you can see the seller's feedback.

I suspect maybe he thought Raven Roberts British Battleships of WW2 is no as good as R.A. Burts British Battleships 1919 - 1939.

Hi Guys,

Saw a copy of it on Ebay for 20 GBP at auction and 80 buy it now. I think it has 4 more days left. Curiously, it's being put up for bid by the guy who paid 312 GBP for R.A. Burts British Battleships 1919 - 1939. I figure he has to pay for that book somehow.

In all honesty, The Roberts Raven book is superb. I've had my copy since 1985 and have used it as a reference many times. I can not use enough superlatives to describe how invaluable it is.

Happy Modelling,
