All this talk of FFGs, I'm trying to work on a couple of 1/350 scale LCMs. Anyone got half a dozen USN doors and hatches they don't want? My address is;

Take a look at the drawing referenced in Cliffy B's post of 26-Mar in the link below. It shows the fins and current bilge keel arrangement.

I have found a lot of pics of the fins but no specific location data. Do you have any data on that?

I was just talking with the nephew Saturday at a family reunion. He works for a contractor, said she would be decommisioned early in 2013. Also, said she was falling apart. He was in the hull dept.

Well, I've been lurking all along, just recovering and cataching up on things. I have started back on Doyle, not much progress as of yet. The wife has me stripping wallpaper in the dinning and living room followed by painting soon. I may post some photos in a week or two. The bollards came from one of the dragon DD kits, think they are from Buchanan 42.

I just across this thread and all I can say is WOW! I served aboard 2 FFGs and I just started the Academy OHP 1/350. The OHP was my last sea duty (89-94) and I really want to make her right. Can I ask where you got the bollards? I also want to put on the fin stabilizers but can not find any reference drawings. I have already removed the frame work on the foc'sle because it just looked bad, replaced it with .010x.020 Evergreen.
I hope your recovery went well and that he liked the ship when you gave it to him.

She is still around, will be back soon, got into a modeling funk. Was down for three months from the surgery. Then my kid brother passed. By then it was September. Retired in July, and the wife has had me catching up on everything around the house that was left untill I was better. A new grandson in October, just had to go to Ohio to see Him. Went to the NRG convention in Buffalo, NY, shot about 250 photos of the 'Sullivans'. Now that it's getting cooler I should have more time in the shop.

The added details to this ships are just extraordinary! I'm learning a lot just watching the snapshots. I hope that your nephew-in-law will be able to appreciate the exceptional and the "beyond-the-call-of-duty" effort that you're putting into this masterpiece.

It will be the highlight of his retirement, I am sure.

My family and I will also keep you in our prayers. Take it easy and try to heal up so you can get some modeling done!

Good News:

The Nephew-in-Law is being piped ashore the first week of MAY, ship is deploying and won't be back untill after July when he retires. I'm not going to get her done for May, but hope to have her finished by July.

Sorta Bad News:

On May 6, I go in the hospital for my abdominal aortic aneurysm, BIG 10 INCH CUT. Good news is as soon as I can sit in a chair, I get two months of time in the shop.
