i have only done the one to this point and am still in the process, i just glued the main deck down today and still need to putty the joint before i try the color streaking with the watercolors to blend everything together but you can see the airbrush layers here.
in person with the naked eye it looks very much like a peice of rough wood has been glued down.

the airbrush layers gave a very realistic effect, you could of course vary the colors to achieve your own desired effect, just remember on the second color to hold the airbrush at ninety degrees to the plank texture, hold it low and shoot across very lightly so you don't cover the "valleys" of the plastic planks. too much and you will loose the "bicolor" effect. this is extremely easy and requires no skill other than basic airbrush skills, just go lightly, you can always add more later, it's harder to take too much off.

Well, I will try this paint technic. It's a hard-working. I hope make correctly.

my attempt i mixed tamiya deck tan with a touch of yellow and brown to darken it slightly, air brushed the entire deck. then took earth brown and held the air brush at a low level and sprayed that color across the grain of the deck very lightly so i got a "bicolor" kind of effect, after that was dry i took a very firm paintbrush and dry brushed all the loose powder off. looks very much like wood but kind of monotone. soon i will attempt to streak some water color diluted down in white brown and black watercolor into it to get better effect. allowing to dry between colors and applying very lightly with the same stiff large bristled brush almost dry.[/quote]

I have a different technique, which works very well if the deck has raised lines. I pain it a flat colour (I use WEM colourcoats "Teak") then rub the detail with a pencil to bring it out.

Excuse me, because my English is very poor.
I'm a ship modeler from Brazil and have a question about deck painting.
I see photos of plastic models with deck surface like real wood. Very realistic.
How do I make this painting?
