FYI - Resin-cast upgraded 1/200 Nichimo main turrets

by bucketfoot-al » Sat Jan 16, 2010 10:50 am

Harry Ohanian, whose custom 1/200 Nichimo Yam is on display at the USN museum, has been offering various 1/200 Nichimo Yamato upgrades on ebay for a couple of years now. I can VOUCH for the amazing quality of his replacement 5" open gun mounts, binoculars for the upper bridge, as well as many other pieces including the custom made .25 cal guns.

Well now he has re-designed and cast in resin the main 18" turrets. And man are they accurate!! The Nichimo 18" turrets look nothing like the real Yamato's turrets (too rectangular and too small) and are the MAJOR defect of this otherwise nice model.

Best of all, Harry's custom-cast parts are very reasonably priced.

Here is a link to his resin-cast replacement 1/200 Nichimo Yamato main gun batteries:

I can't imagine anyone who has built the Nichimo 1/200 Yamato not wanting to correct this primary shortcoming of the kit!!

 Hi Timmy,

Thank's for your answer, yes I've thought to buy this kit to give me some indications for the general layout.

You might want to start with using the Fujimi 1/700 Super Yam as a reference:

Super Yamato Project

Greetings to all there,

I am wondering on a new project, I've purchased a Nichimo 1/200 Yamato but the kit was unbuildable due to many lacking parts (main guns and turrets, decks, main superstructure etc) However I've keeped it for mailing cost reasons. First I was planning to build it as Musashi but now I'm thinking of using it to build a Super Yamato (the one with the six 500 MM guns) Do you think it's possible and how can I build that? I precise that I've never made scratchbuilding!!! I've thought to of a conversion to a QE2!

Thank's for your help, it will be welcomed!
