I don't know of any clearer shots of the back of that platform, sorry.

Someone posted this on SN today. It shows the " King's Barge" but flies the Stars and Stripes. Is the a US boat or a English one?

Do you know of a source for a clearer shot of this area of Washington during this period? I can make out the demarcation line for the front blotch of the lightest grey at the front of the tower in this and other photos but can not make out the line for the spot on the back.

Not sure, I was looking at a scan I have on disc from Ron Smith. He supplied a lot of the photos for that book though.

I have a photo of BB-55 North Carolina in August of 1941 is Measure 2 and there are three boats stacked on the starboard side; one is an admiral's launch and looks to have a 5-D hull and either a white or 5-L deck house; the others are launches and one is 5-O Ocean Gray and the last one 5-D Dark Gray.

Is that on page 10 , Warship Pictorial #29?

Boats were usually painted to match the ship, but early in the war there was some confusion and variation. This may illuminate what I'm talking about:

I have seen black below the waterline on the larger craft such as launches, the smaller whale boats are more difficult to make out. I have a photo of BB-55 North Carolina in August of 1941 is Measure 2 and there are three boats stacked on the starboard side; one is an admiral's launch and looks to have a 5-D hull and either a white or 5-L deck house; the others are launches and one is 5-O Ocean Gray and the last one 5-D Dark Gray.

Coming to a end on my BB56 Washington build a couple details I am not sure on. The ship's boats would be painted the same as the hull color on the BB, but how about the cabin and below the waterline of the boats?

Would there be red below the waterline on them or just black? Would the cabins be painted the same as the hull or white?

Here are two pics that make me wonder. In the first the boat appears to be painted in the same colors as Washington and in the other though on the other side appears to have a white cabin and a dark or black hull.

Would the interior of the other boats (whaleboats?) be grey or natural wood?
