Yes yes yes... I KNOW! She deserves better than this. I'll get back to her soon, after the Independencia and the Gouden Leeuw. I promise.

Despite the start of the van Kinsbergen, this one is making excellent progress too. I guess I found my casting kit, thanks for the links and nicely explanatory pictures of the process!
Great results too, can't wait to see this ship evolve. I love those original subjects which nobody else builds and of which I didn't even know the existence! :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Today I tried to make a "weapon sprue" of sorts, to see if it would work out. Well, it did.
To the left we have the 85mm cannon, in the middle a 100mm cannon with solid blast shield (a modified Seals item) and to the right a non-related scratchbuild cannon for the Dutch gunboat Gruno, which has a hollow blastshield with gun mounting visible. I just added that one to see how the casting on such a complex shape would go. Apart from the gun barrel not filling out completly and a 'bubble' of sorts inside the shield, it went fine.

The first three boats have been cast, and here they are on a temporary cradle. Fourth hardening as I write this.

Succes! Glory! Elation! Jay! I have cast my first ship! I'm happy! Happy happy joy joy!
First one didn't get the stern (shown in the middle in the second image) but the second one took the cake! (apart from a funnel, but that can be remedied). Once again, hurrah, hurrah!

So, finally I've started the casting operation. First, i scratchbuilt the torpedoboat, and placed her on a casting plug. She's a little rough, but this is all mm work and trying to sand something smooth at that scale is just... well...beyond me. Second image shows the craft now sunk beneath the murky waters of Lake Silicone.

Well, just google it! No really, here are some adresses:
http://www.alumilite.com
http://www.smooth-on.com
But taking shipping into account, I suggest finding a source in Japan, there must be!

All right, let's pour some rubber! :woo_hoo:

Yay! Progress! I've taken delivery of my first resin casting set, and now I'm off to build the torpedoboats. Well, one actually, which I then will cast. Here's the beginning: main hull cut out from 1mm evergreen. Added ribs, cut those down with nail clippers, and then smacked on a heap of Magic Sculp.

Here's the last progress before putting the ship on the backburner: I built a 65mm gun with inspiration from mabmanu's approach on his great Neptune. I also installed the 100mm cannons at the forward sponsons. Unfortunatly, I have run out of supplies, mainly the gunshields, the barrels, the PE railing and the casting material for the torpedoboats. So for now, Le Foudre will be placed in active reserve until the materials are available. I still have other ships to finish, you know (about 55 of them  ). A suivre...
