The ship has grown to become one of my favorite RN vessels. I think this will be your best work yet, Phil!

This looks really good and an interesting build. I take it Q turret is not the final version as the Lion class had rounded fronts as did all the 13.4" gun battleships and battlecrusiers and the bolt heads would not have been there in 1915 as they only showed up after Jutland when 1" additional armour was bolted on top.

Nice model and I look forward to developments.

The labourious task of detailing the midships part of the deck is well underway.I`m trying a new way of working,I`m doing one side of the model,and do the other,this saves some time in continously turning the model around,especially with a model this long.The boats came from my ever shrinking spares box,and the boat crane was scratch-built from brass rod ,and plastic tubing.

The forward funnels have been finished ,and are now attached to their deckhouses.I don`t know what the white(?)bands round the funnels are,my theory is that they were an early attempt at camouflage,to confuse German rangefinders,no Radar in those days!!I used some WEM PE from their Scharnhorst 400th set ,for the engine room vents ,also made and attached "Q" turret barbette.Now to start detail the deck in this area.

Wow! Your scratchbuilding is VERY impressive. Looking great so far!

Attention has shifted to the midships section.The part should be entitled "How I Make my Funnels".The smaller forward funnel has been completed,and I`ve started to make the larger middle one. I will let the pics do the talking

A metal tube cutter works just as well with plastic tubing

two lengths of tubing are cut to form the core.

Apiece of 20thou plastic sheet is glued to the end of the funnel,and left overnight to set properly

the plastic is folded round the tubes ,which have been attached to the base,and clamped with a "G" clamp ,and bulldog clip

Thefunnel needs to be cleaned up ,and trial fitted to it`s deckhouse.

I`ve been hampered a bit by the plans I have of the Lion.These have been drawn by two different people,and each are different in many details,so,I`m having to look at the photos I have of her,and decide which is correct.Added to which,I`m totally dissatisfied with the Revell Aqua color "Hellgrau",as it is like using coloured water ,with absolutely no covering power. So it`s back mixing my own Grey with citadel paints ,luckily ,I`ve managed to get very close to Revells shade ,now I`m back on track.
The signal deck has been basically completed ,and fixed to forward shelter deck,it still needs further detailing.I`ve made a start on the forward funnel,luckily ,a piece of 1/2"diameter plastic tubing was spot-on for size.The funnel top ,has been turned in my Dremel,and hollowed out,with the edge being bevelled.

Beautiful work, Phil! The Lions are one of my absolute favorite classes of ship, and you are truly doing them justice. I really like the paint scheme, it is a nice change from all the dark grey Battlecruisers you see around. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks to "Gentleman Jim" Baumann sending me some images of Lion models and the real thing ,I have managed to get my head round the layout of the forward shelter deck,so I`ve starting working my way up the structure.The 4" barrels are from BMK brass barrels.

They are pin-heads,but not for the mushroom vents,they are for the coal-shute covers,I`ve tried to counter-sink them a bit,this ship has got loads of them!!

I hadn`t intended to do a WIP,but now that I`ve started ,I`ll finish.
At the time (1915),Lion was still equipped with Torpedo nets,and to represent the booms ,I used 1/16th brass rods,and the wire between the booms is stretched sprue.When stowed these wires sagged a bit.

Ive wrapped the painted hull in Cling-film,and fixed it the base.

Using Das modelling claty and fine surface polyfilla,I made the seascape.

WOW!!!!! That is some mighty fine work you have done there, could you please keep us up to date with as many photos as possible? I love seeing scratchbuilds like this go together! Looking forward to more!
