I went to the San Francisco Archives a couple of weeks after our earlier exchange looking for CVL info amongst other things, and found nothing really.

Tracy,

Appreciate all your help. I am actually in the process of building that scene with the USS San Jacinto, USS Hornet, USS Enterprise, and USS Saratoga in 1/700 scale. So I want to get the colors just about right. The picture from the sources that I gather was taken around September of 1945 as San Jacinto was in the western pacific in August and was tied up at Alameda in September.

Hornet was in the 1945 Measure 12, but otherwise yes.

Looking over San Jacinto's DANFS entry, it's possible she was painted out of Dazzle in December of 1944 during repair following Typhoon Cobra; the Navy was already talking about painting out the dazzle schemes by that time, although I'm not aware of how far out into the field the orders were getting. There's a gap between early April and June in the history, so it's hard to say definitively. I'm going to the archives later this month but I don't think I'll be able to find anything from any of the forward operating bases.... there might be records from Pearl or Mare Island though.

So its possible all the carriers in the photo are painted in measure 21?

She was ordered to repaint in Measure 21 (Neutral colors) in February 1945 as part of this general order:

Note that Hornet was ordered into Measure 12 but didn't until after a June '45 typhoon, so this wasn't necessarily something that happened immediately.

I may know more in a couple of weeks....

I am finally getting back into shipbuilding - my last project here was back in 2002..http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html

I am looking to see if anyone knows if the USS San Jacinto CVL30 continued carrying the MS33/7a camo as she was docked at Alameda shown in this photograph..

Checking shipcamouflage.com indicates no information available for that time frame.

Thanks,

Bert Legaspi
