I worked on CT SSN 22, when built she was red from the center line down. Bottoms of stern planes were red. From the center line up to the water line she was a very dark gray which I find Floquil Grimy black works perfect, I know this because i took some to work and painted it on the hull of SSN 21 and it was a dead match. From the water line up everything black. The tops of the stern planes are the same dark gray color as mentioned before.
This is how they painted them in the late 80's through late 90's at EB. Now days I don't know due to not working there any more. SSN 21 and 22 were painted like this when commissioned and so were are 688's at the time. Tridents all red from the water line down and black above.

All black. I use ModelMaster's "Aircraft interior black" as it's a very dark gray that looks more in-scale.

Could someone please comment on the paint scheme ie is the boat all black/dark grey or is it red below the waterline? What colours would you recommend. Currently building the Bronco kit in 1/350. All suggestions/comments will be greatly appreciated. Regards. Clyde.
