Thanks Timmy!

My Orange-Hobby HMS Ocean should arrive in a week now and I'm looking for a configuration with the flight deck packed with helicopters.
Right now and the configuration is not yet "closed" but I would like to pack the flight deck with the following type of helicopters:

4x Appaches (Orange Hobby)
??x Sea King Commando HC-4 (L'Arsenal or WEM????)
??x Merlins EH-101 (Orange Hobby)
2x Sea Kings ASW (WEM)
2x/4x Lynx (WEM)
1x Chinook CH-47 (PitRoad or Tamiya JMSDF Ohsumi)

I'm not sure if it make sense to have Sea Kings ASW on HMS Ocean.....
I'm not sure also if Sea Kings HC-4 were replaced by the EH-101 Merlins.....

Thanks
Regards,
Ayala Botto

P.S. I'm resuming building 1/700 model warships after a 5/6 years period. I ordered HMS Ocean as well as HMS Daring Type 45 Destroyer.

Hi,

I ordered my Orange Hobby HMS Ocean, but I'm confused about the type and numbers of each helicopter included in this model.
I thougth it would include 4x Appache helicopters, but now I'm not sure anymore...

Can anybody help me with this issue?

Thanks in advance.

The two Italian flat tops have already been done by Delphis Models. Very nice kits also.

Mistral please ! Russian navy will also have this in his inventory so a possible Russian version for future release.
And later the Cavour and Giuseppe Garibaldi ?

Received the Ocean kit at the weekend and its very nice, i think Robs going to love it.

A word of note the BV206 are not included in the kit so if you want to use them as deck load then you'll have to order them seperately.

The other aspect is that we get Apache and Merlin, the Merlinsa are great, but are the ASW versions so will be handy for the likes of the Illustrious or Daring kits, whilst the HC3 in the Illustious kit can be used on Ocean.

Hopefully L'Arsenal's Seakings for their Fealess will be the correct HC-4 SeaKing Commando so thay can be used on the Ocean airgroup.

No worse than plastic manufacturers leaving all their parts on a runner.

I prepared Dokdo last night (OH's first kit). It took me 5 minutes with a razor saw to get the overpour off so quite honestly I don't see it as a problem.

In the packing of the kit, the overpour - which is only at the hull edges- had been used to protect the small parts in the box, therefore everything arrived intact. Not always the case with resin kits.

The kits are beautifully cast, have quality PE and small parts and apart from this overpour virtually no clean-up is required.

They are a breath of fresh air, both in terms of quality and price. Let's hope other manufacturers take heed of this.

Please forgive me for asking this, but I am wondering why, when resin kits have as much overpoor as Ocean has in the photo's, the manufacturer does not remove it before selling the kit. I am not talking about minor bits but given that there are obvious difficulties in removing it and the risk of damage to the kit , it does seem wrong that this is left to the purchaser.

well done Orange Hobby! :thumbs_up_1:

I sent this thread and some of the images to a friend of mine who serves aboard HMS Ocean. ( in 1:1 scale !!! )

with luck--if only 25% of the crew buy a kit--it will be a hit eh!! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:  :cool_2:

Its too modern a ship for me--but I recognize quality when I see it!

After Dokdo, Juan Carlos Primero, may we expect that your next release will be a Mistral / Tonnerre / Dixmude ?
This would finely complete the serie. And you could always draw later a Russian version of the kit ...
I also vote for Mistral!

IN any event, the PE is the best (thinest) PE I have worked with. My only complaint were the large pour overs on the bottom of the hull (as you can see) they are very hard and very thick and required a full sized table saw to cut them off cleanly and flat. Otherwise, one of the BEST kits I have done in a long time

Alternatively, try a "hot knife". Heat up a sharp thin blade, and use that to cut through the resin - works for me.

BTW, get your parents permission, or get your dad to help - too late for me though I'm afraid.

Won't work too well here b/c the over pours are very thick and run almost the entire length of the ship. You'd be there all day heating and cutting heating and cutting and when done, you'd have a moulton mess of resin at the bottom of the hull where the bottom part of the wet deck is supposed to fit squarely.

Now that's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for pointing out the tugs selling separately. I just placed my pre-order for a couple of sets.

I probably wont build this kit. But my request to Orangehobby is to make some of those wonderful modern 1:700 tugs and harbor boats available on their own. I have some modern ships that could use some modern tugs and there's just nothing on the market. Not just in 1:700 but also in 1:350. It would be great to see some high quality modern harbor boats including tugs, fireboats, etc.

Congratulations on a great offering and I hope you will consider my suggestion.

Most of the items tend to be issued as accessory sets, although many of the traders only appear to stock the ship kits.

For next project, the Chinese 071 could also be considered?
Its a BV206 - An all terrain vehilcle used by the Royal Marines when they deplot in Artic Norway.

I'd like to see HMS Hermes also!!! Also one of my favorite French vessels the Suffren class of the early 1960's!

I can only reveal the next project will not be LPD or LPH, it will not be HMS or the French Navy, but I will continue some of the LPD's design, if started, I think HMS Albion (L-14) is a priority because it is the HMS ocean partner, it is very important.
I also like the French Navy, with the Royal Navy, I wish I could to complete the entire series, instead of only one or two of them, therefore, temporarily vacant, sorry!

Why not consider HMS Hermes in your future plans?
