Hi Iain!

I used the drawings issued in a Polish journal "Modelarstwo okretowe" no 12 and 13 (the plans are the insets). You can order these issues via internet.
http://www.modelarstwookretowe.pl/

Of course I used also huge amount of reference pictures. In this case these were the pictures of the sistership ORP "Darlowo" available on the Internet on the forum balancer.ru.

Cheers

Lothar,

Very nice.

I'll be watching for your sailing ship project. I have thought about doing a sailing ship too.

The basic hull, masts, etc. shouldn't be too hard. But just how much detail do you want to do in the rigging? Lots of blocks, loose rope ends, coiled ropes and knots. The first knot is a challenge, the second not so bad, but after that they must get boring. And sails - furled sails are a real challenge!

Owen:
I think you'll like the new mesh tools in 2.5/6. B-Mesh is coming in 2.63
It also looks promissing to me. I hope we are going to receive a good, stable and efficient tool very soon.
But so far I rely only on the "classic" methods of modelling, however trying to get deeper into the new version of Blender (my new project will be done in 2.6x).

Best regards - Zdzislaw

That is looking very nice indeed!

You mentioned the original was scrapped, did you have some personal connection to the ship?

I think you'll like the new mesh tools in 2.5/6. B-Mesh is coming in 2.63 :D

The reason is simple  I begun my project in 2010 within Blender 2.49b. Since that time a lot of changes had occured to the software. I noticed, the new version has a much better rendering engine (faster and much more efficient).
I have just started next project which is going to be absolutely challenging to me... a sailing vessel. I have never built such kind of the ship. So maybe I will succeded in 3D? We will see :heh:

Very nice!

I noticed you modeled this in 2.49, and rendered it in 2.62. Just curious, is there a reason you didn't model it in 2.62 too?
And feel free to post anything you want in that "other" thread, if you like.

As DrPR suggested in some other thread, I decided to open a new one with few pictures of my last Blender project: the Polish OSA class fast patrol boat. She has been already scrapped, so my model brings her "better times" into memory
