A rather belated reply as I've had trouble with my imageserve account - it wouldn't let me upload images for some reason!

Anyway, here's the Hatsuyuki as she currently stands:

I've mainly used Humbrol enamels, although the second funnel has been done using WEM RN White. The main colours are on, so it's on to the scuttery tidying stage.

Pit-road skywave actually have some, or should that be, many a good warship model, but they seem very few and far between, good detail and quite cheap, a lot of different destroyer classes. Does anyone actually know why this company are not doing as well as the others such as Tamiya, Revell, and the rest of the normal fav's ?

Mike, I've been reading this a little bit and you mentioned little confidence in using PE. I have trouble placing it in 1/350, let alone in 1/700. Anyway, you have made a good start :thumbs_up_1: .

The strutwork isn't accurate, but came out better than I was hoping. It's better than a lump with raised lines anyway! I've also has a go at the hatches on the torpedo lockers.

That's quite alright, Dan :cool_2: - I was going to remove the platform anyway to alter the shape based on the info thread, so changing the post style isn't an issue. It looks a bit bare underneath too, so I'll kill a few birds with one stone!

You can give me as much feedback as you want, I don't mind in the least. Britmodeller is primarily an aircraft site so the original thread over there has been a bit quiet - plenty of views but few comments.

One thing that is not strictly correct about my Fubukis is the support for the forward platform. For this class, it was more of an H shaped set of posts, as opposed to a singular central column. I wouldn't reccomend ripping off the one already in place but you might want to add some very thin styrene rods to either side at the edges. See p4 of the Fubuki thread.

I don't want to drive you crazy with this sort of detail so, let me know how much feedback you want.

It's looking very good, Michael. Smart choice on the kit. I think you did a very nice job on the spacers between the Tamiya funnels and the PitRoad kit. The funnel rake looks good as well. I've posted more info over on the CASF Fubuki thread for you.

I ripped off the funnels, lowered them and fixed the rake on the forward one.

I've also started on the funnel caps, though I'm waiting on some information as to the shape of the struts from Dan K. I've also added the steampipes, enlarged the platform for the RDF shack behind the second funnel and added a bigger bit of plastic to represent the RDF shack itself. My first attempt was too small! :doh_1:

I've also added the gun platform forward of the bridge and changed the platform forward of the aft funnel to the larger of the two included in the kit, again thanks to information from Dan K. :cool_1:

Hi everyone, here's a WIP I currently have "on the go" over on Britmodeller!

It's the Pit-Road kit of the Shirakumo being built as the Hatsuyuki in late '42-43. I'm using the "Calling all IJN Fubuki class Toku-gata fans" thread over on the CASF section as well as Dan K's two build threads on this board as inspiration.

Having read through what's here, it's become evident that Pit-Road goofed with this kit. The hull has a long forecastle whilst the actual ship had a short one. From what Dan's indicated in the reference thread, the only group 1 ships to have the longer forecastle were Hatsuyuki, Murakumo and Uranami. I was tempted to do Uranami as the kit funnels are wrong for the rest of the first group, but I decided to follow Dan's example and nabbed them from a scrapped Tamiya offering.

As I have little confidence in my ability to use etch, I'll try and replicate some of what Dan's done in plastic to add extra detail.

More superstructure on, with a bit of detailing on the rear deckhouse added. I've also begun adding the grills to the top of the funnels - rough shapes at first, then sanded to proper profile once it's all hardened.

If anyone's wondering, the wreck in the background is the old Tamiya kit - that's the kit I nabbed the funnels from. :smallsmile:
