I was stationed on the ship 1985 to 1988 as a Radioman.
Great model. You questioned a certain piece of structure that was sitting on the roof of the hangar bay. If memory serves me correctly, it was simply a flat bottom boat that the Boatswain Mates used for various maintenance chores along the water line (painting, scuppers, etc.) and was not a "permanent" fixture.

It is almost finished. I've set it on the water base. Still need to rig it and add a couple of inclined ladders and finish up the water.

It only makes sense, to me, to position the radars off of centerline for a ship at sea water base. Thanks for noticing! :wave_1:

All of the railings, radar and additional details are done and I've applied a coat of Mr. Surfacer 1200 with my new GREX airbrush (first experiment with this new brush).

Carl,

In the pictures where that feature appears black, it looks like sections of fuel hose on some sort of straight rack. Yet, in the close-up shot it "appears" that the rack, if that's what it is, has a curve to it. Its definitely a puzzlement.

Thanks, Robin! You have no suggestions as to the use of the unidentified feature above? I'm wondering if it is a fender of some kind.
