We discussed something similar on the HMS Prince of Wales thread just a little down from this one that went on to 10 pages. Our discussion related to how to convert it to B&W and why the shades are not the same as WWII B&W photos. We were told colour spectrum was the answer and even with colour photos the photos back in WWII did not show the true colours of the ship.

That would be quite an undertaking, because appearance will vary based on many conditions. Even if you restrict things to a periscope view (essentially 0' altitude) you still have sun position and humidity at least, that can affect appearance.

*Edit* I was curious about Timmy's link because I had been to [url=http://camoupedia.blogspot.com/]this Camoupedia[/url] but wasn't aware of a separate one... turns out they're the same, just his link has a .ca domain (since he's canadian, eh?). So if there was anyone else who was wondering if that was a different site, the answer is no.

I don't think anything's been published for hobbyists, but I assume we can learn something from the actual model/testing apparatuses they employed during the Wars just for this purpose.

Haven't looked through ever page to see if it includes photos of those test tanks/tables, but I do recall seeing pictures of them somewhere on the internet (helpful, I know...maybe Google's digitized LIFE magazines?).

Ahoy, forum: Have we information about how to photograph a camouflaged model to show how the ship appeared at sea at various distances and times of day? One relevant setting would represent the view from a surfaced submarine approaching torpedo range.
