The Revell LPD-21 kit is the same as the Gallery/Trumpeter kit, so this set should work fine.

I also prefer laquer and Gunze, I think it has the best finish you can get, a smooth and silk surface, Acrylics often (if not sprayed correctly) leave a "rough" surface, that in 350 is not very good since it's a so small scale.

For finer detail , painted with a brush acrylics are great

I think Aclylic touch is surely more smooth and unlimit expression than Lacquor or Enamel base.
But As I know, final touch over the Enamel or Lacquor base may have no problem except blending effect.
One important thing is every modeler are enjoying his work with his own ways.

Personally I am also an Auto modeler from 1/6 Tamiya Bike sries to 20 F1 and 24 series (So I think Gunze lacquor is the best even for the ship modeling)
and I am an 1/8 Pocher series collector.

Yes Kim, but I see so many here's swearing by acrylic. I just think I'll lose to much detail with acrylic and then if I need to touch up, I'll run into clumping problems without a bunch or flow-aid/retarder. Thinking lacquer and enamel touch up is the more comfortable way for me, but I don't yet know. Takes a lot more time in prep/and clean up, but (at least) on the 1/12 scale car side; is well worth the work.

Well If you came from Auto modeling, I think that it is familiar to use Lacquer materials for PE parts.

I come from the 1/12 1/24 car world where I use lacquers as foundations as much as possible because of the thin coats, drying time, ability to polish; but most importantly I can build enamels and acrylics upon them. Usually I'm shooting automotive paints and clearing with 2k or PPG products.

If there's metal, it gets some adhesion layer or self etch of some type before color is laid down.... Thoughts on this would be helpful, because the concept of building completed structures of multiple materials (styrene, brass, white metal, resin) that are finished products as its all brought together is daunting. I'm sure this will make me a better modeler and is already teaching me a lot with regard to planning out my builds.

I always use Gunze products, for me they are the best. So for the primer I use Mr surfacer 1000 (spray bottle) and spray it through a straw in a bottle, then use it with the Airbrush. It will cover styrene, PE plastic, brass, all there is. Since you don't handle too much the ship parts there is a low risk in damaging the paint.

Gunze have a lot of paints that would work for US navy gray's and deck dark gray.

For little details , brush painted I use Vallejo acrylic paints.

If you wish to do weathering or washes, use Alclad Gloss finishes (aqua or laquer) and after that AK interactive, oils or other water based products

Well we've tried to design all the PE paets to be bented easily.
So on the applied sample, we've used only Flat nose plier and sharpen tweezers.

Will I need a 5.5 "Five Speed" Hold and fold for this set, or will my "Bug" RTH from the small shop get the job done?

Just don't want to buy another tool that I really don't have a need for right now otherwise...

Hello from Germany!

I used Pontos San Antonio set already for my Revell (=Gallery,MRC...) USS New Yorck and have o say, it fits perfect and it's a lot of fun!!!
As I also have Broncos kit at home, I think it would be possible to use some of Pontos PE parts for that kit, as well, but these two kits differ a lot!!! For sure you could use f.e. the nettings around the flightdeck (although the dimensions a little bit different), most parts of deck-details (boat-supports,...) and the crane; at least in parts (plastic base part of the crane differs a lot). It will be harder to use railing, grills, PE flightdeck, catwalks, etc.. because of all the differences between the kits.
If anyone is intefested in, I can send by mail pictures comparing both kits and maybe of my finished USS New Yorck, too. ...and if anybody is willing to publish these pictures here, he could do it, too.

Practically it is hard to supply some parts only.
And almost our brass parts combinated with PE.

But although we've not tested to fit to Bronco's yet, it may be possible some can be applied to Bronco's too.

Well I am sorry that we have no plan to release LPD set for Bronco kit.
If Bronco sends us 3 LPD sets for drawing and releasing, we would consider.

Since i'm building only full hull and the price is not a problem, Trumpeter is a better option for me, I like it better somehow, better surface details and more details.

But Bronco is a good option for sure. I still think that with a little work the PE set would fit to a Bronco.

But still if you have the chance, I think the Trumpeter/Gallery models/Revell is a better choice.
Horses for courses. I believe the Bronco is a better choice as the hull is cut in a way for easy waterline display if you choose to do so. It is also cheaper.

Lemme make sure I have this correct; Pontos Models is going to due one of their amazing sets for the Fujimi 1/350 JMSDF Helicopter Destroyers DDH-181 and DDH-182? Really? This is the best news I've heard all day. I have the Hyuga kit and I think I'll have to go get myself the Ise DDH-182 to go with it now.....
