There are some differences to what John posted; as Timmy alluded to CASF Independence is a good resource. But, in summary, bulkheads around the elevators were NOT painted white, otherwise the camouflage would be destroyed from the air when the elevators were down. I haven't found any official directive yet that states what they should be, but 5-N is most likely in my mind, to closely match the flight deck. Also, as this document states in paragraph 6, the top six feet of the bulkheads around the elevator platforms should be flat black.

Independence herself had black painted further back/forward during her time as a night-fighter carrier, as you can see in some shots here. I haven't been able to find any photos for other CVL carriers at the same time period that indicate if this was standard or not.

Possible exception being the area immediately near the elevators - the bulkheads there may have been painted a dark colour to reduce visibility from above. Tracy White has posted a few pics of this - check the CASF carrier threads and the rest of this camo forum.

Bulkheads & overheads should be 5-U White; hangar bay deck should be #20 Standard Deck Gray.

I'm building my 1/350 CVL-22 as CVL-30 and looking for color info for hangar bay bulkheads, overhead, deck, elevator wells, and any other details.

Thanks!

Jonah
