Hello everybody,

it seems to me that from a Druppel photo taken in Wilhelmshaven into a drydock , after the end of the war, that Z-25 was still coloured on 2 tone grey's; so both RAL 7000/7001.

I really would like to know on what Lifecolor bases this *variant*. Any idea?

The overall light scheme could have been something in the range of RAL 7035 as well, as this was used on the upperworks of the Federal German Navy up to 1972 (or 1985, I have to look this up), and maybe just taken over from the interwar years. Nowadays the German Navy paints the ships in RAL 7000 overall. I was serving in that Navy for 12 years, and that's why I know this colour so well.

I am by no mean an expert! The hull, superstructure and upper works should be: RAL 7001, Hellgrau DKM 50 var., LifeColor UA 603.

Not an expert on destroyers, but yes, many Baltic stationed ships received an overall light grey livery in 1944 (late?). You may want to ask Antonio as he seems to have more comprehensive knowledge about this specific ship. Decks in something else than black or dark grey? I doubt that.

Trumpy's instructions for their 1/700 Z-25 show Tamiya XF19 light gray overall with XF58 olive green :scratch: main deck (yet it's also called "gray"). Huh?

Available references seem to confirm they're right about the 1944 fit; and that the ship served in the Baltic from 1943 on. Photos appear to show the hull and upper works in the same rather light gray. Can't say I've seen a photo that tells me much about the deck. What would the actual KM colors likely have been in that place and time? BTW I'll be using WEM Colourcoats.

EDIT 9/8: OK, maybe my original question is too general to merit a reply. My main concern is, was the superstructure hellgrau? I've seen a couple of well-done Z-25s in the gallery, in two grays. However, I've read that after 1942 some destroyers were in one gray overall. I've read also about paint shortages in the last years of the war, leading to the use of whatever was readily available. The couple of B&W photos I've found of Z-25 are not much help.
Might Trumpeter be correct to indicate one gray for both hull and upper works?
