Look on youtube for Pro Modeller wash. I have the stuff and tried it and it works. Simple to use. The stuff comes off after it's dried with a paper towel.

Airbrushing Pledge/Future might be a better idea as it gives you a thinner coat and no brush strokes. But you have to clean out the airbrush really well after as Pledge/Future will get gummy and build up.

Thank you, I brushed on the Pledge and man what a difference that made! That was the step I was missing, I did some rusting on the hull and am going to try to give the flight deck a washing to try and make the traffic areas look worn or used looking, I painted the launch catapults and the landing area to give it that grease and rubber look. I did that before I found out about the pledge so I had to take it like it is but it did come out OK. I tried to pin wash the planes but I guess they are just to small to get the mix to travel down the grooves on the wings, so I tried to pencil them in but that does not work once I've pledged them. I messed with them for two days with no luck, oh well. If there is a trick to them let me know. Thanks

Sorry! Forgot to mention the Future coat first. Without the Future barrier acrylic paint tends to soak up some of the oil paints. And don't use a cloth, or especially cuetips to move or remove the oil paints - they will leave unwanted fibres stuck to the surface. Instead, use a wide flat brush to brush the oil paint into the panel lines, crevises, and raised detail, etc., as well as to remove excess paint.

I watched almost every one before I found one that explained it step by step, thanks, now comes the real test.

Do you first have to apply a clear base first or even pledge? I tried to do some pin detailing and wash but the oil colors seem to stick and not wipe off like I thought, I did thin it down but I must be doing something wrong. I have been looking to find a step by step instructions for painting but it always seems they leave a step or two out. So far I painted the deck and hull with Tamiya color spray paint and I bought some oil color tubes and tried it out on some extra pcs. but the oils seem to stick and not wipe off like I thought, I want to make some small rust lines and wash the deck to make it look used. Please help!

I would do a pin wash with a very fine brush (10-0). Acrylics dry way too fast and you might be disappointed with the results. Like-wise with oils I would not spread them unless it is part of the overall weathering scheme.

Thanks guys! I am going out tomorrow and buy what I can find and I am even going to buy some cheapo just to practice on. Maybe one day i'll get it right. LOL

So I guess you apply it on then wipe it back off with a towel and it will leave a light film in the grooves & seams giving it the dirty effect?

A black oil wash is better than acrylic/water because the oil will flow much more smoothly into crevases and lines more consistently. But use artists' tube oils and thinner (the oderless kind) - not linseed, or such, it is way too thick. One tube of artist's oils costs around $5 - $10 (depending on size and quality and brand), but will last you a lifetime!

Tamya's "Smoke" paint will work well. Depending on how severe the effect, you may want to thin it some.

I've noticed when painting Skeleton figures for Warhammer, it makes the bones look perfect.

I am building the Tamiya 1/350 CVN65 and in the painting details it says to apply a thin wash of black on the deck to enhance subtle details to really stand out. I am new at making really nice and fine details so I could use some advice from this great collection of experts! can one of you explain how to do it? Thank You
