Way Cool! That's a lot of model for so few poly's & texture(s), nice job!

So what game will this be in?

Cheers,
Dean

It is a challenge. I've only got one texture map to use as well, which was fun :D

Here is the final job.

Very cool! :thumbs_up_1:
It's got to be a challenge keeping the poly count down and still make it look good, looks great so far.

Dean

Got most of the actual parts in place. The rails will be textured and I'm going to cut in some ports for the cannon.

Currently sitting at just over 3K. That is with stuff like sails, rails and rigging having to be duplicated and flipped as they are only 1 polygon 'deep' and have to be mirrored so that they are visible from both angles. All good fun!

The best will be when I come to texturing and I have to fit the whole thing into one texture map :D

Here is a shot in Marmoset Toolbag, which is a game engine 'simulator'. This is before the cannon were added.

And this is the Blender viewport render.

Next is to clean up problem areas like the front and bottom of the hull. When that is done, then I can start adding stuff like deck fittings and so forth, till I run out of polygons!

update. Got the masts on and the forecastle. The rails will have a transparent texture on them, so they are just plain at the moment.

Thank you!

I really enjoyed your threads on your ships. You do some really nice texture work.

If I get anywhere near your effort I will be very pleased.

Good luck in your attempts to build this "Santa Maria's" cousin ship  . As I construct a high poly model (French lugger) it is going to be a very good chance to compare our models.

Extruded the edges of the top of the hull, shrunk them a tad, then extruded again and moved down and I had a deck level. Extruded and moved to centre and I had decks!

Scale is VERY approximate. This is going to be viewed from a distance and the characters are not going to be walking around on it so measurements are kinda seat of the pants.

The digital avatar of Columbus has come to supervise the work going on.

Medieval Ship Game model

A slight departure here as it is powered by sails and isn't covered by iron plates

I'm making a Medieval sailing ship, which I'm basing on the Santa Maria. I'm not sticking to plans though as she is supposed to be a 'cousin ship' rather than a 'sister ship', if you see what I mean.

This is going to be a game model, so the poly count is going to be really low. The other items in the series have been about 4,000 - 5,000 pollys, but I don't know if that is anything like a realistic target for a sailing ship as I've never built one of these things before.

So, rather like the original Santa Maria, I'm sailing into unknown waters possibly with a completely out-of-touch idea of where I'm going to wind up. :wave_1:

I've got my blueprints in Blender and put vertices along the ship's hull lines.

Then I used the bridge command to put pollys between the vertices. After a bit of work adding a keel and straightening things up a bit, I've got a hull!
