A slight departure here as it is powered by sails and isn't covered by iron plates
I'm making a Medieval sailing ship, which I'm basing on the Santa Maria. I'm not sticking to plans though as she is supposed to be a 'cousin ship' rather than a 'sister ship', if you see what I mean.
This is going to be a game model, so the poly count is going to be really low. The other items in the series have been about 4,000 - 5,000 pollys, but I don't know if that is anything like a realistic target for a sailing ship as I've never built one of these things before.
So, rather like the original Santa Maria, I'm sailing into unknown waters possibly with a completely out-of-touch idea of where I'm going to wind up.
I've got my blueprints in Blender and put vertices along the ship's hull lines.
Then I used the bridge command to put pollys between the vertices. After a bit of work adding a keel and straightening things up a bit, I've got a hull!
