Thanks Greg! :thumbs_up_1: I'll give it the old trial and error process and hope it looks as good as yours does. :cool_2:

I used plastic (evergreen) rod - 0,5mm
I roll it under the knife with gently pressing down the knife. Very gently ! If you use to much power - knife cuts down.
I rolled 3-4 times up&down until I reach visual effect of 2-3 or 4 turned concavities. Then I pressed more to cut down.

after deformation (I used metal bars with different diameters to press them on rubber gum) looked quite OK:

polyester is very fragile - to much power when rolling or shaping causing breaks

I hope it helps.... :wave_1:

to be honest I spoiled 4cm of plastic bar initially to get first item looking quite OK.

You can also buy them made form resign (Chrysanthemum and Oceanspirit)
Another way to try roll them up form epoxy putty.
Good luck !!

How do you get those nice fine cuts in the plastic rod? What is exactly your technique if I might ask?
They look very good. :thumbs_up_1:

ijn superstructure protection

hi all

i've been getting back into model making after a 25 year break :)
built a bunch of planes , now getting into ships.

i have a bunch of IJN ships on my bench (working up a skillset to build the tamiya waterline 1/700 yamato)

and often on pictures the ijn protects their superstructures from (i assume schrapnell) by adding rolled up fabric (like in this picture of the akagi http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... i_Deck.jpg )

i have 2 questions ... does anyone know what these are called??
and does anyone know of a technique to make these in 1/700 ??

kind regards

Corosus
