Funnily enough I now have the RAL colours in a spray can. Turns out that my local auto paint shop can mix any standard colours which have been used by a car company. Seems at one stage, Volkswagen used both o  f those colours.

Checking the records, I have found two model paint companies showing these RAL numbers i.e. Revel and Humbrol. Revell have 157 as 7000 and 378 as 7012, Humbrol have 145 as being 7000 and 79 as 7012.

I have these and not surprisingly, Humbrols and Revells colours are rather different!

How hard can it be?

Hull and superstructure: 7000
Decks: 7012.
I worked in the supply chain for those ships and boats, and I can guarantee that these colours are correct, at least for the time I was in that Navy.

I thought it obvious just by looking at the photos...

Hi,

You mean ships like Sachsen and Brandenburg class frigates are painting with RAL 7000? Decks, hull, main structures, etc?

Not sure if I understood or I agree with...

IMHO the decks are darker than the hull and other "vertical" structures....

Thanks.

I think overall might be confusing Ayala as that sounds like the decks are 7000 too.

All weatherworks & superstructure is RAL 7000 and the decks 7012? Those photos show the decks as a different colour.

In two-tone, the hull was RAL 7000 and the superstructure in RAL 7001 or something even lighter (I read somewhere RAL 7035), as seen in the former training vessel Deutschland A59.

Today the ships are painted in RAL 7000 overall, as seen on Tender Mosel A512 or the nowadays museum ship DDG29, Mlders D186.

Hi,

Sorry, I'm not following.
Regarding German contemporary warships, what RAL should be applied and where?

Thanks.

Olaf,

Many thanks :thumbs_up_1: , I'll try and lay my hands on some model paint in that colour and see if I can match to a local paint this end. Pint shops in oz only do British or Australian standard colours.

If I'm not mistaken, in 1985 the paint scheme changed from two-tone (7000 and 7001/7035) to just 7000 overall.

During my time in the Navy (1993 to 2005), the deck colour was 7012 Basaltgrau containing anti-slippery ingredients.

German modern colour help

Im trying to find out what were the weatherworks and deck colours for German warships from the 1980s. Ive looked at a few websites and the results are confusing.

For the hull, some say either RAL7001 or RAL7000 and one site has a two tone scheme with hull as 7001 and superstructure as 7000.

Deck colours suggested range from RAL 7005 or 7016 or 7024
