What a great build thread!
I too have just read it from start to fantastic finish... amazing how quickly you progressed through.

Somehow, once I reached the end of your thread, a Nelson and corresponding Pontos set was purchased from LuckyModel.... great timing with the $2.00 shipping!

I thank you :wave_1: , my wife and credit card have a different opinion! :heh:

can you tell me what the girder structure thing between the breakwaters is for? is it to carry rigging from the superstructure to the bow?

Hi Jason,
What color did you use for the darker metal decks? Is it Tamiya, and if so could you tell which one? I am looking for a similar color to paint my HMS Lion battleship decks.

Thanks and Happy New Year! :woo_hoo: :thumbs_up_1:

Did you paint those decks dark grey with brush after glueing everything together?
Many of the deck surfaces were actually Pontos PE; I painted them first and then installed them. For the deck surfaces that weren't PE I masked them off and airbrushed 'em after assembling and painting the vertical bulkheads.
Wow! How did you manage to mask and paint afterwards the lowest deck of the superstructure? I' m currently at this point and I can't figure it out how to paint it when all PE parts are glued in place... :Mad_6:

I only have enough to do half of them right now but those little oerlikons are still available and I might be able to just stick with the kit bases on the maindeck without them looking weird. Plus, I checked the Pontos Missouri/Iowa detail sets and those kit's oerlikon bases are shorter than the Nelson kit so I've got extra there as well (although they are a somewhat different shape) :woo_hoo:

I also squeezed out Nelson's HACS units:

They were a nightmare as the main antennae piece wouldn't fold properly and the little triangle pieces break off after only a couple folds. It was almost a disaster but I somehow managed to get 'em bent properly and re-glue the triangle pieces back onto the unit. A little bit of paint and no one will ever know... :wink_3.gif

Thanks again everyone!

Hood is definitely on my short list but I'm going to wait until Pontos catches up with their detail sets; sounds like they are gonna do the regular set + advanced set thing again so I'm guessing it will be a while.

I'm thinking maybe I'll do something smaller and that won't take a year to finish next...

If so, then just a bit more time for the Pontos guys to finalise the set, then BOOM! The most accurate PE set ever created! :thumbs_up_1:

I made an attempt to get the screws off but when I installed them I made them extra secure on purpose so they wouldn't fall off if bumped and they aren't coming off without incurring some damage. Live and learn I suppose...
Please keep the props on that way. I must be sentenced to death for causing this excellent model to get scratched! :flamed:

Now, "What's next" is the question we all look forward to getting the answer...
