Yes, they are. The plastic is similar to the well-known "Evergreen" or "Plastruct".

Jose Chaica wrote:I decided to use a different approach to the hull, rather than those which are usually presented here. Instead of covering the hull with fiber glass and/or resin, I decided to cover the whole hull in plastic ONLY, for at least two reasons...

A) This model is intended for static display only
and
B) I can work with plastic, and get great results, better than with fiber/glass-resin

Better than trying to explain my method photo by photo, Ill just leave the pictures here, which are self-explanatory. If anybody wants to comment, or ask anything, then please, do it....

Using an "hot-air" gun will help the plastic to conform to the hull shape more easily

Hello to all

A (very!) long time has passed... more than 6 years!... a lot of things happened in my life that ultimately, made me steer away from my scratchbuilt model projects...
All my projects (Manila Bay included!) are now in the past, with no hopes for recovery... Currently, Im thinking about returning to the one thing that really made me happy, as a modeller... large scale (1/72) naval scratchbuilt models!
In case of return, Ill have to start from 0 (zero) including setting up a new "drydock"... I already have some ideas, which Ill share in due time...
Just to let you know my intentions... :thumbs_up_1:

Very nice work and glad to see you're back at it!

One thing I didn't see you mention earlier is the method you use to attach the styrene to the hull. Do you use styrene cement to anchor the styrene sheets to the stand-off strips?

Keep up the great work! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Not sure if you noticed John but the pix aren't off Jose carrier, he hasn't posted for a while! (I didn't realise when I posted the pix of my friends ship)

Does he ??? I thought that he used 2-component, marine-grade epoxi resin on his hulls. I must check his work, back again... :woo_hoo:

Hi Jose, Sorry I have not replied for quite awhile, the build is looking good, there are days when all you do is sand, but remember its only getting better. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :wave_1:
