Looks like I'm going to be spending more money in your Shapeways store. Keep up the excellent work my friend.

Thank you Steve for this item (and all of the other wonderful things you have created), especially the items in 1/426 scale for the ancient Revell Arizona! Now, after fifty years, I can actually build this kit into a really decent model! Hope to see more things for the old odd scale kits from the 1950's and 1960's!

Many thanks!

Bill

Thanks to several modelers' requests, the design for USS Arizona's 1941 funnel is complete.

It is available in 1/192, 1/200, 1/350, 1/426, 1/700 and 1/720 scales.

Just click on the scale you need on the left side of the page:

Turrets and superstructures available separately. Note that the machinegun platform should carry two watercooled .50 cals. These and Fighting Tops and 5"/25s and 5"/51s available from my friends at 3DModelparts.com.

Features:

- overall dimensions and features scaled from official US Navy plans and drawings by Alan B. Chesley and A.D. Baker III adjusted to match photographs of the actual ship
- accurately shaped steam pipes, incinerator exhausts and whistle
- separate machinegun platform permits easier access to, and interior painting of, the searchlight control platforms straddling the funnel
- accurately shaped machinegun platform and splinter shields
- open smoke pipe with correct interior "bend", hollow all the way through
- fine supporting structure details omitted, ready for your favorite photo-etch parts (not included)

Some part cleanup will be necessary. The 3D printing process uses a waxy substance to support certain part features during the printing process. Although the parts are cleaned by Shapeways, some waxy residue may remain. It can be safely removed with water and a mild aqueous detergent like "Simple Green" using an old, soft toothbrush, Q-tips or pipe cleaners. Customers report that "Bestine" and "Goo Gone" also work well.

During the printing process, liquid resin is cured by ultraviolet light. Microscopic bits of resin may remain uncured. Let your parts sit in direct sunlight for a few hours to fully cure the resin.

Water-based acrylic paints meant for plastics is strongly recommended. Other paints, especially enamels, may not cure on Frosted Detail 3D-printed plastics.
