Personal experience: use dark brown oil paint instead of black for the wash. Black is too colourless.

I found an example: This is a piece of wood strip used in model ship building. Originally it was a brown-ish color. I gave it a coat of thin acrylic gray, and when dry, a wash of black oil paint.

Results and shades vary with type of wood used, ie; balsa, basswood, etc. Distressing with sandpaper, razor saw, and files also help the ageing process. :wave_1:

Unfortunately, I've deleted the pics from PhotoBucket, but I've gotten good results from painting the wood (and I'm assuming you mean REAL wood) with thinned acrylic light to medium gray. Vary the gray tones for more realism. When dry apply a black wash to accent the grain. Do some light and patchy sanding in different areas. Works for me. :wave_1:

Beforehand - sorry for my ugly English,i'm a novice.

Everyone know how old,colorless wood looks like.How can i turn my normal woods on my model to something like this?Simple gray paints won't work i expect.Real hull and deck looks like this:

How can i do the same but with my model?

P.S. one guy make something like that and i must to say he succeed,how does he perform such a result?
