Re: Bofors CAD files sought.

Hello all,

I have the same problem working on an 1:72 WWII escort carrier.

I'd need a CAD file or STL for 3D printing of the twin Bofors 40 mm incl. mount. As I need 36 of them, buying them online is not an option.

The links on this page seem dead, what I would need is a detailed drawing showing all dimensions. Worst case I draw the thing myself and print the key parts.

I would appreciate if any of you could send me drawings of this gun.

The Historic Naval Ships Association has a lot of information on line for the 40mm Bofors, both US and British documents.

RP 50 Mk 5 at

http://www.hnsa.org/doc/pdf/br1919.pdf

Lots more at

http://www.hnsa.org/doc/index.htm#guns

There are many drawings in these manuals showing parts, including illustrated parts breakdown and parts lists.

The "Anatomy of The Ship" volume on the HMS Belfast has orthographic drawings of the RN Mk V Twin Bofors circa 1959 complete with shield on page 96.

There is no correlation between the two except for the guns themselves.

I have seen US Navy drawings of the dual and quad 40mm. How do they differ from the British versions?

Ramjet,

John Lambert has some drawings you might be interested in. I have found his drawings to be the absolute best resource for British weapons.

L/O/50 Mk V 40mm mount, 3 sheets
L/O/70 Mk VII single 40mm, 5 sheets

John really likes giving you a discount if you order a lot of drawings, so don't be afraid to order more than what you will use on this one project. I have something like 10 or 12 of his sets and they are all excellent. You can find his email address on his website (http://www.lambert-plans.com) and while he says on there not to order through email, he has done it for me twice now.

post some pics of the HMAS twin bofors and I may be able to modify my model to match.

That's different, we are both doing work for the same company.

My apologies. I was trying to be funny, mate. I figured it was something like you explained. :))

It's not that, it's that I sold the CAD to Dragon. So I would have to change my model significantly before I share the actual file with anyone.

In these days of heightened security, I understand if you have to erase the firing pins.

Thanks CadMan.

You are a step ahead of me. I plan to make those drawings when I get around to the CAD model of the original USS Oklahoma City CL-91. That's still years away.
I'll save you a copy. ;)

I have one reference to MkV twin mounts and MkVII single mounts.

I appreciate your help.
