Moving really puts a damper on ship building. Just some new pics... bad photos and a bad air brush experience. Because I'm putting down wood decking I'm not worried about the deck. Because I am going to multi-layer chip weather this thing I'm still debating how much PE buildup I should do on the top decks before I paint.

And back... taking care of twin babies cuts into modeling time! :)

Some minor work on some details, as well as weathering the aft deck.

The brackets are a really nice touch. Looking good!

Work bench (and new reference photos) and finally! complete with the gas line mounting brackets.

I used left-over phototech railings for the brackets - cut, bent, re-cut and glued.

Progress remains steady but slow. Lots of filling gaps on the photoetch.

Started work on the gas line connectors - that's going to take a hot minute. The gas line is a little too thick, but nothing is perfect. :) Potholes filled and photoetch being added.

Got some work done on the damaged hanger. What I found was there are two sets of pics of the San Francisco some taken at Pearl and some in San Fran, where some of the damage has already been cut away and temporarily plated over (which is what Im modeling).

Got a lot of the metal work done, some battle damage and now working on the gear box for the hanger door and other piping, etc.

This Flyhawk set is ridiculously detailed to the point Im not using all of it. I rather learn some techniques along the way as opposed to just bending and gluing. That said, this is only my 2nd ship model and my first attempts at this level of damage and weathering, so Im learning as I go. There are a lot of mistakes and re-dos!!

Got the FlyHawk Photoetch set today... in the words of the Kool Aid man... OHH YEAH.

However, this thing is SO detailed I almost feel like its cheating! I spent a good deal of time scribbing, and filling some parts... and with this? You just slap some photoetch on there and boom, its done.

So while I'll use a lot of this, I don't think I'll use all of it. I kinda want my work to show through as well, you know!?

Thought I would get more done, however I realized that none of the stock bracing for the 5" gun wells was accurate. So I got the old pics and diagrams, removed the stock ones and rebuild them in the correct places and construction (i.e. they went under some of the gun tubs)

Now I'm waiting for the SkyHawk detail set to arrive so I can really start going at this thing.

If anyone has a good paint match recipe for the ArtWox 1942 Blue Deck, that would help! ;)

Starting my post-Battle of Guadalcanal CA-38. I did some multi-layer chip testing (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=167505) and now am starting work on the main hull.

Just making some minor tweaks to get it as close to the reference photos as I can. Truly an international build - with photoetch lettering from Poland, wooden deck from Spain and photoetch set from Australia.
