I have used dullcote, coth nottle and can over acryl without any problems.

However, this is just my experience, yours may vary.

As for the silvering, next time, use a schosh more future. I have had that problem in the past, and between decal softener and future, it helped a bunch. Sometimes though, decals are just crap

Ive also been told that testors decal set, when sprayed over old decals will help keep this from happening. I havent tried it yet.

I've done sucessfully. Let the paint dry for 3 days, then spray on thin coats over the enamil. Let each thin coat dry for a few hours, then spray as much as you want over it.

I have sprayed Dullcoat cans over MM Acryl many times without problems. Just make sure it isn't too humid, or it will frost (get white).

Also, as I recently learned with my U-32, it can make your decals "silver" even worse....

The only real problem I've had in the past is when I am trying to Dullcoat over a spot of Future- like when decaling. There is always a texture difference and a sheen difference that just won't clear up.

When I build U-32, I decided I was going to try very minimal Future for the decals. Obviously, I didnt' use enough!

Anyway, I have never had a problem with Dullcoat reacting to the paints. Dullcoat is a lacquer- but it's a pretty wussy one. It's not like you're spraying Duplicolor or something hardcore like that.

I've not had a lot of luck brushing Future. You might try thinning it a little bit.

THAT could be a good idea Timmy. Could I brush paint the Future instead. I don't own an airbrush so spraying is out of the question. On the bright side I happen to have some Future at home. I was able to convince the CIC that she needs this stuff for the wood floors

You COULD spray a known-to-be-unreactive coating (future, etc.) first, then spray the Dullcote. That should work nicely. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as you also, have to mail order everything, or just stock up every 4 or so months when I rent a car and can drive to the real hobby shop.

It seems I'll have to test my Dull coat spray cans extensively before applying a coat to my model. It's a shame not to have easy access to paints in my area. All I have are the Humbrol brand and Tamiya brand. No Pollyscale and no acrylic dull coat. Most of the time I have to plan ahead in order to get things as simple as Tamiya masking tape or CA glue. My "hobby shop" (more a toy shop) does not carry a good amount of anything. Can you believe that I actually had to wait about 2 weeks to get some Humbrol flat black!!!!!�

Oh well.... back to building models!! And thanks for the tips!!

I would recommend using an acrylic dullcoat, either by Pollyscale, the Testors acrylic, or making some flat using Tamiya flat base and Future.

That being said, however, you should be able to use the testors dullcoat IF you airbrush it on in very thin coats. Test it on a scrap area first. And I would never use the Testors dullcoat in spray can or brush it onto any paint finish without a LOT of testing.

I'm using the acrylic line and I'm definitely unsure what to do. I'll wait for someone with experience in using these paints. On a side note those paints do go on heavy compared to my ol-and-tested Humbrol paint. I have to be careful of those dreaded brush marks!

If you're using MM Enamels, then that's fine. But I'm not sure about the Acryl line.

Hello all!

I'm using some MM paints on my Alaska project and I wanted to know if I could use Testor's dull coat on that sort of paint. I would not want the paint to peel or do anything unatural!! The camouflage is hard enough to do as it is!!!!
