Hi Chas,

I first painted the landing marks and foul lines masked them and sprayed a coat of flight deck grey (WEM colorcoat) followed by clear gloss, you can use future as alternative. having done that I applied the decals at the elevator outlines etc. Everything was sealed with a coat of flat varnish (WEM colorcoat, excellent). Then I took flight deck grey again, darkened with black and thinned to transparency. I lightly sprayed this mixture over the different lines on the flight deck. This gives the drab and weathered look. Next step was to spray a medium grey (modelmaster) in the main arcraft parking zones. Handling aircraft and sea water lightens the flight deck color in certain areas. Check your references. Last step is drybrushing with medium and light grey colors and working over the landing area with dark grey and black pastel chalks. I hoe, this helps You along a bit.

I used artists chalks and freehand painted the lines on the deck. I probably should have used masking tape and an airbrush, but I prefer to paint stripey things by hand

I notice in Frank IIse's 1:350 model of the Big E that he has aged his deck and given a distinctive wear pattern. Can anyone tell me or point me in the direction of how this was accomplished or books I may find ideas on weathering and aging your work.

I originally built this model 35 years ago and built it as a kid. Now I want a museum piece and am looking for ideas.
