Saw this over at CG Talk, thought it looked great. Not an expert on this class, but from what I can see, its coming along very nicely and looks the part.

Keep us posted.

TimmyC, the size of the frame in CivIII is 240x240. CivIII uses FLC files (animation files), not the model itself.

Looks great, Chris! What size will it be ingame?

by Eilelwen » Tue Apr 04, 2006 8:43 am

hehe aye two different uses for our projects. also I know about rebuilding it seems everytime I think I finish an area I get another pic/schematic whatever and I'm redoing a section /sigh.

Here is the WWII version I made for CivIII. Again, I didn't give it very high detail because it wouldn't be seen ingame.

It looks like you have a good start on the model. I bought the USS New Jersey from Digimation.com. I then found out that the majority of the superstructure and other items were not correct dimensions. So I got a hold of several Iowa Class blueprints from the Floating Drydock, and I picked up the Tamiya 1/350 New Jersey for referrence as well. I rebuilt most of the ship with the exception of the hull, bridge and some miscellanous items. I made it into the USS Missouri as she looked in the Gulf War. I didn't add the high details like you are doing, because I mainly made it for the CivIII video game. Although if I get time, I do want to make it high detailed later on.

thank you, that was way more math then I could handle

by Timmy C » Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:55 pm

Top speed was 33 knots. Multiply by 1.15 to get miles per hour. Multiply by 5280 to get feet per hour. Now that you have velocity, using the equation d=vt, you can insert 887 (length of Iowa in feet) for d, put 200376 for v, and solve for t. 887/200376= .00443 ish, which is the time it takes in hours for the stern to reach the spot where the bow was at 33 knots. Now to conver to seconds, that'll be .00443*60*60, which is 15.9 seconds. So, if I converted correctly, the time it takes for an object moving at 33 knots to travel 887 feet is 15.9 seconds.

quick question does anyone know how fast or how long it takes an iowa to move the length of the ship IE back of the ship moves to where the front of the ship was in say 30 seconds or so
