Who is the author of the Napoleonic naval books you are searching for?

I quick search of bookfinder.com only brings up the multi-volume Chatham illustrated histories. Are these the ones you are seeking?

There are any number of good books on the Royal Navy at the time of Nelson and Napoleon, published mainly by Conway Maritime Press or by Chatham in English in the UK. Whether any of these have been published in German I do not know.

There is one book I know of which might be in German. It was published in English under the title "Navies of the Napoleonic Age". The author was Otto von Pivka which I believe was a nom de plume of a German aristocrat who was an historian. I do not know his real name. Since he was German it may well have been published in German originally. If it is helpful he also published a companion volume entitled "Armies of the Napoleonic Age".

The Naval book is not specifically about the Royal Navy but provides an overview of all the European Navies of the time including the Ottoman Turks (but not the Algerian Corsairs) describing their rank structure, uniforms, representative vessels etc and also quite a detailed overview of the naval actions of those navies from 1793-1815. It really is an excellent primer.

Unfortunately I have had the book for over 20 years and I have never seen it reprinted in English so you may well have to search the second-hand market. I hope that is useful. If you want any information on good English language books on the subject I would be happy to help.

Thanks greatly. I have tried U.Boot.net. Without luck.

The main problem seems to be that the archives and service records were kept in Koblenz, and were not very well after a couple of U.S air raids. :eyebrows:

I know he was interviewed by the Royal Navy submarine school in 1946. But no records after, and no idea where he was after leaving U-91 in 1943. I suspect on Dnitz' staff. But that is not covered on the RN records, and there is no attached photo.

Na, ja, keep trying, and thanks again. :thumbs_up_1:

[quote="von-Scharnhorst"]2) I am trying to find any info about Heinz Walkerling, Ka'leunt of U-91 until 1943. I would appriecite if any one could tell me of any publications that may have a photograph of him.

Hello, I welcome you to the board :welcome: . I don't know of anyplace to find Walkerling's photo, perhaps a google search? But as to information about him and his boat. A good start would be http://www.uboat.net
I just check quickly there and he and his boat are listed with basic information at least. I would think a German source on Uboat history/ books or internet sites would be better than the English language sites?

Hi all. I am new on these boards. But I am sure you are not dangerous. :wave_1:

Na, so. I am trying to find;

1)I believe I am correct (?) "Nelsons navy at the time of Napoleon", or "The Royal Navy at the time of Napoleon" (I am not exactly sure which). Was ever published in German?

If so, does any one happen to know what the titel is in German?

I am sure there was more.... :scratch:

Na. I know where to find you. :smallsmile:
