I put gold medals and wems pe sets side by side and used the best of both on my yamato. WEM has a wider variety of details in their set. But the etch relief on GMM is quite a lot better on the main components. GMMS' crane and catapults' lattice work is much more rounded giving them a much more three dimensional appearance.
The ones from WEM seemed flatter and did not achieve the same "depth". But WEM also adds more and grater variety of components.
Don't know how relevant to your carrier this will be but thought you might like to know. Personally I will probably continue to buy both sets for future projects.

hi ive recently started the trumpeter's 1/350 uss lexington and i was thinking of putting photo etched detail on it. ive never used pe before in any of my models. i was wondering if any of you guys could help?

Hey thanks for the help, because i come from the netherlands WEM is closer than GMM, but I need to check also if I can get it here in holland, so thanks again

Having used both manufacturers products in the past I have come to the conclusion that out of all of the PE manufacturers these two are the most similar. I find both of them are very easy to use, they are more durable than some brands, and less durable than others but superior in detail to all others I've used or seen. The details contained in either of their recent releases seem to be on a fairly even level. Personally I think choosing between the two is a ship by ship thing. You can examine both of their offerings on a given subject online, and sometimes there is a difference in the fittings they offer. Sometimes WEM will have something that would be nice...but is a little too intricate for my skills, and if GMM has basically the same set with some other fittings that are within my skillset...then I would probably go for the GMM. This obviously depends highly on the particular set in question and on your own skills. For my living in Canada, the fact that WEM ships own products except for colorcoats for free is most often the clinching factor for me, since if the sets that both offer for the same ship are basically the same...I may as well get free shipping.

I've got a question about PE sets.
For some models like the nimitz and the enterprise (also a lot of other models), both GMM and WEM bring out PE sets for those ships, my question wich one is better, in production and on details and that sort of stuff?
